Al-Mustafa School is part of a not-for-profit society, serving the Shi’ah ‘Ithna ‘Ashari Muslim community for over a decade through different educational and religious programming including, a vibrant Islamic weekend school, a Preschool and licensed Childcare programme alongside supporting moral and spiritual growth for a variety of age-groups. We have established a faith-based (Islamic) Elementary School in Surrey, BC in 2021 and are currently seeking qualified applicants for the role of an Elementary Teacher to start in August 2022. We will offer KG to Grade 3 classes for the 2022-2023 school year.

Job description

The primary role of the Teacher is to assume responsibility for supporting the academic, social, emotional and physical growth of the students complementing the holistic educational philosophy adopted by the school, working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team and establishing a strong partnership with the parents.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Authentic teaching practice with a strong pedagogical basis and professional growth plan current with effective educational strategies and methods.

• Collaborative work ethic fostering a positive classroom environment, fruitful interactions with the parents and the school community and likewise working cooperatively within a team of fellow educators and administrative staff.

• Agreement to work with the standard policies and protocols of the School in line with a holistic educational philosophy and supporting the formulation and implementation of the School’s growth plans with a clear endorsement of its values and mission.

Qualifications:

• Current BC Teachers Certification or eligible for certification with the BC Teachers Regulation Branch.

• Bachelor’s or Masters degree from an accredited university.

• Be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Preferred qualities:

• Strong knowledge of British Columbia Curriculum

• Awareness of the principles and practices of the Islamic faith with an emphasis on the Twelver Shi’ah sect is an asset.

• Administrative experience is an asset but not a requirement

• Committed to continuous professional growth and improvement

• Experience teaching in a technology-rich environment
