Summer Employment 2022
SHSM Summer Cooperative Education Program
Rate of Pay- $47.54 per hour
Cooperative Education provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate course expectations in real-life workplaces. This Cooperative Education program supports students who are working towards their SHSM in a variety of industry sectors. Students earn two credits towards their diploma and accumulate up to 220 hours of hands-on experience in their related sector.
Teachers are responsible for delivering 2 credit Co-op. Learning will be facilitated synchronously through remote learning sessions supported through Google classroom and in-person sessions as listed below:

NOTE: Provided COVID 19 protocols, as directed by the Ministry of Education, York Public Health and the board allow, all placements will be in-person, unless a student requests a remote option (as in research Co-op or because of health or circumstances related purposes).
PLACEMENT
Monday to Friday
July 4, 2022: 9:00 AM – 12 PM to August 5, 2022
INTEGRATION
Friday July 15, 2022: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM
Friday August 5, 2022: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM
PLACEMENT DETAILS
Each session will be 3 hour in length and will align with 6 predetermined modules of study
These classes will be conducted via video conference (i.e. Google Meet) or in-person as outlined in the schedule listed above
Teachers will be responsible for facilitating task activities delivered via Google Classroom
On non-session days, teachers must be available to respond to student questions and/or conduct tutorial sessions with small groups of students.
Teachers will cover a variety of integration activities and ICE certifications
Teachers will be responsible for seeking virtual coop placements and virtual experiential learning opportunities to support students learning in their chosen sector
Guided by the student’s Student Cooperative Education Learning Plan, teachers will be responsible for monitoring the major components of the virtual summer CO-OP program
Teachers will develop the remote CO-OP curriculum, activities and other learning opportunities to suit the needs of their students.
Teachers will be responsible for attending both curriculum development sessions scheduled for April 27, 2022 and May 11, 2022. More sessions may be scheduled to support teachers by mutual agreement.
Required Qualifications/Experience:
Co-operative Education, Part 1
Three (3) years experience teaching Co-operative Education
Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
Applicable qualifications as per staffing guidelines
Desired Qualifications/Experience:
Understanding and knowledge of the SHSM program
Previous experience in Continuing Education programs
Previous experience in Secondary Coop Department
Previous experience and comfort with G-Suite tools (i.e. Google Classroom)
