About the Company
The Martin Family Initiative (MFI) is a charity that works alongside First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in Canada to help foster Indigenous children and youth’s education and well-being. MFI works with Indigenous people to adapt successful existing programs and create new programs tailored to local needs.
About the Role
- 4 to 5 days a week
- 20-25 hours per week
Roles and Responsibilities
Payroll:
- Process semimonthly payroll using ADP Workforce Now;
- Process payroll related changes, as needed;
- Set up new employees in payroll systems;
- Maintain records of personnel-related data (payroll, personal information, leaves, vacation etc.) in both paper and the database and ensure all employment requirements are met;
- Prepare annual filings; T4 Slips – RL1 Slips and Summaries;
- CNESST, EHT and WSIB filings;
Hiring and salary review:
- Support the recruitment/hiring process by sourcing candidates, performing background checks (vulnerable sector searches), assisting in shortlisting, drafting employment contracts etc.;
- Maintain records of all job descriptions;
- Perform orientations, onboarding and update records with new hires;
- Maintain/update salary grid and benchmark.
Performance management and training:
- Assist managers in performance management procedures;
- Support/coordinate training sessions and seminars;
General:
- Update and maintain Employee Handbook;
- Update and maintain employee related policies;
- Respond to internal and external HR related inquiries or requests and provide assistance;
- Coordinate communications to employees for payroll related matters;
- Assist in ad-hoc HR projects, like collection of employee feedback.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a generalist in Human resources and payroll management;
- College diploma;
- Canadian Payroll Association certification or payroll management training. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Outlook;
- Experience in recruitment process;
- Experience as a generalist in HR projects;
- Experience working with ADP Workforce Now;
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite software, particularly Excel;
- Knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial compensation and benefits legislation;
- Bilingual and excellent communication skills in English and French (verbal and written);
- Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines;
- Self-starter and team player, able to work both independently and collaboratively with others;
- Ability to adapt in an environment that is growing and changing.
