Summary:
As a member of the Southern First Nations Network of Care (SFNNC), the Intake Coordinator is to act as a direct resource and liaison for the SFNNC with key collaterals and stakeholders. The Intake Coordinator provides consultation and expert advice to all concerns/complaints regarding child welfare matters, which include, but are not inclusive to, children in care and service-related matters, which are provided by on and off reserve First Nations child welfare agencies under the SFNNC.
Key Responsibilities:
Intake Management
· Receives all intakes (new information, referrals, concerns, or complaints) specifically from those received from the Child Protection Branch, Minister’s office, collaterals, and agencies.
· Gathers initial information to assess and determine appropriate service response.
· Enters all information into the electronic data base (CRM).
· Telephone screening and assessment.
· Walk-in referrals.
· Follows up with Minor Parent notifications.
· Initial crisis management, including risk assessments/crisis interventions.
· Makes referrals to collateral agencies/organizations.
· Provides case consultations and information re: policies and standards to agencies.
· Opens and closes a file at Intake or prepares file for ongoing investigations.
· Gathers and analyses Intake data for statistical reporting.
Authority Determination Protocol (ADP)
· Receives concerns, consultations, and general inquiries.
· Develops and implements training.
· Assists with processing of Section 28 transfers.
· Assists with Change of Authority requests.
· Assists with Permanent Ward transfers, Section 42 & 49.
Child Abuse Investigations
· Receives concerns and provides clarification with Child Abuse Committee (CAC).
· Addresses jurisdictional concerns.
· Responds to general inquiries.
Case Consultations
· Assists with case planning and case management (challenges, standards, systematic issues, i.e., justice, school system, health).
· Attends and participates in large system meetings dealing with complex cases.
Foster Parent Appeals
· Consults with agencies regarding Foster Parent Appeal process.
Interprovincial Agreements
· Assists with CIC courtesy care.
· Assists with Family Service transfers.
Sexually Exploited Youth-High Risk Victims
· Acts as Authority representative with CPB, Police and agencies.
· Attends Street Reach meetings for identified youth.
· Works collaboratively to develop an aggressive action plan that suits the youth which includes assisting with placement resources (Resource Development), funding (Level 5 Application).
Education & Qualifications:
· BSW or equivalent in social services field, must have at least three years’ experience in the child welfare system or a combination of experience and education.
· A comprehensive understanding of Child Welfare Legislation, relevant Standards and Regulations, and AJI-CWI and this must be reflected in the work being completed.
· Knowledge of substance abuse, family violence, child development, and child abuse/neglect and community resources is required.
· Demonstrated skills in areas of crisis intervention, abuse investigation and assessing high risk situations which may require immediate response.
· Effective and professional communication skills, both oral and written.
· Experience and familiarity with Microsoft software (Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)
· Exceptional organizational skills to optimize client and collateral staff needs.
· Detail orientated.
· Proven ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasked environment and manage deadlines.
· Flexible to adapt to changing work conditions.
· Ability to work independently and as a team.
· Must have a demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal culture and traditions.
Other Requirements:
· Must Provide Criminal Record Check.
· All successful candidates must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
· A valid Class 5 MB Driver’s Licence must have access to a reliable vehicle for business travel.
