Position: Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis

Reports to: Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis

Position Term: Full Time Permanent

Job purpose

The Financial Analyst is a member of the Financial Planning & Analysis team that is responsible for operational planning and budget, financial reporting and financial analysis. As a Finance Business Partner, he/she will assist in all tasks that helps the team to be valued and trusted finance partners to our internal client groups, such as:

• Providing financial and business analysis in support of budget management and corporate decision-making, including trending and budget to actual variance analyses;
• Orientation / training of staff in budget and financial processes/systems and guidelines/policies;
• Provide responsive, quality client service

Duties and responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

Support integrity and maintenance of Business unit / Cost centre structure and TM1 access.

Support preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports for senior leaders and Board

Provide decision support to specific WVC divisions on financial management matters as a business partner by:

• Providing divisional and Corporate monthly and ad hoc financial reporting and analysis, including revenue and revenue metrics, expenses and variance analysis for internal clients and WV International Global Centre.
• Support training and onboarding of new managers in WVC financial reporting & budgeting processes and tools.
• Ensuring accurate and timely reporting of corporate income, acquisitions and cancellations
• Jointly responsible with Customer Data & Insights and Digital teams to ensure integrity of revenue data & reporting
• Ensuring reports properly reflect organizational structures and changes to enable proper tracking at the appropriate level for organizational reporting.
• Ensuring proper communication and coordination with other finance groups to action any items requiring adjustments to be made in their respective areas.
• Advising internal clients on financial and business insight by performing ad hoc analyses including profitability analyses, cost per acquisition, ROI, business cases, detailed GL analyses

Annual Budget and Bi-Annual Projections

In collaboration with Senior Manager, lead team in the preparation of annual Revenue/Expense Budget and Bi-Annual Projections:

• Pre-work required for a successful organization-wide budgeting/forecasting process. This includes preparing Cognos TM1 system ready for input
• Develop and deliver formal budget training material for new staff, defining assumptions
• Manage TM1 model assumptions and ensure integrity of business rules in TM1 revenue model is maintained

Provide direct support to internal client groups during the budgeting process. This support will be in the form of:

• Answering internal client questions and communicating Budget and Projection Business Rules/Guidelines and other Corporate policies and Finance Business Rules (eg. Timing of recognition of expenses, classification of expenditures vs capital).
• Providing information on revenue/expense details, historical trending and summary or detailed reports of group revenue/expenses
• Providing guidance on how to budget specific operational plans (e.g. #of trips, headcount planning, timing budget, proper use of Activity and Subset codes)
• Providing guidance on the use of TM1 revenue model
• Communicate any known issues and/or risks discovered during budgeting or projections in a timely and effective manner to Senior leaders.
• Perform and communicate organizational budget analyses to assess reasonability of submitted budgets.
• Aid in the preparation of organizational-wide documents communicating the final proposed budget (e.g. WVC Budget book and presentation for the Board)

Continuous improvement of Processes, Tools & Data Management

Responsible for continuously improving the Budgeting, Projection, Reporting and Modeling processes and tools by:

• Critically assessing the availability of current information against the information needs of the client groups
• Identifying inefficient or ineffective process steps that can be improved upon.
• Participating as a team member or subject matter expert in projects related to planning, budgeting and reporting.
• Ensuring all major processes and procedures under this job function are documented, periodically maintained and properly communicated to ensure adequate documentation of WVC business processes and cross-training.
• Collaborating as a team member with the rest of the Financial Planning & Analysis team in sharing information (analytical and process), templates, learnings and best practices as it relates to the team’s objectives & goals.
• Learning external best practices and new developments in key tools used in the processes such as IBM Cognos TM1, Excel, new Business Intelligence tools and databases and applying new functionality to WVC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Accounting or Finance
• Strong mathematical & analytical skills; enjoys working with large amounts of data and numbers for long periods of time
• Superior Microsoft Excel skills, preferably can write computer code and work with databases
• Strong analytical and reporting skills; ability to translate financial information to business consequences and solutions
• Possess a strong business acumen and is a strategic thinker
• Ability to work independently and as a team player
• Demonstrated leadership and project management experience
• Experience developing business cases, ROI, etc.
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Seeks to excel in customer service
• Self-starter and initiator.
