Stormtech Looking for Senior Freight and Logistics Lead at Burnaby, BC Full Time

JOB OBJECTIVE

The ideal candidate will be experienced in dealing with international logistic operations ensuring delivery performance meets company strategic objectives.

NATURE AND SCOPE

The Senior Freight and Logistic Lead will be responsible for execution of all international logistics regarding the import/export of products, monitor and coordinate brokerage, forwarding, and freight forwarder, etc.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

COST:

• Works closely with Shipping Forwarders to obtain the best rates & services possible.
• Conduct freight evaluation monthly to ensure cost efficiency
• Provide air costing analysis and advise the most cost-effective way for shipment arrangement.
• Periodically meet with nominated Logistics Service Provider (LSP) for update on logistics issues
• Alert and update top management on all urgent/new freight and logistics issues
• Check and arrange Forwarder Payment Invoice on month basis
• Provide monthly Freight Payment Report Logistics Operations.

LOGISTIC OPERATION:

• Liaise with Inventory/Import Production department and between nominated Logistics Service Provider (LSP) and vendors sites pertaining to logistics issues.
• Oversee and drive nominated LSP’s operations & performance, this will include:

– Execution and maintenance of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to targeted levels

– Daily performance of nominated LSP pertaining to daily booking, shipping, documentations & billings.

– Addressing and provide solution to daily operational issues (if any as and when escalated)

– Lead, drive logistic metrics, tracking measurements and maintain carrier’s performance evaluation to improve on time delivery, lead times and compliance issues.

• Planning and execution of routing decisions on a daily basis based on Inventory requirements.

• Coordinate all shipment delivery activities from destinations
• Address and resolve any logistics issues pertaining to our orders.
• Communicate with LSP, warehouse, suppliers, if any special issues occurred

BANK PAYMENT AND CUSTOM DOCUMENTS:

• Follows up with foreign counterparts to get ocean freight shipping documents from related parties. The shipping documents include Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading, Certificate of Origin etc. Then, distributes the consolidated shipping documents to corresponding parties for Customs clearance and payment processing.
• Monitors the team’s activities to ensure adequate, accurate & on-time documentation
• Ensure on time bill payments to avoid incidental charges
• Perform analysis on payment advice and answer enquiries from management
• Coordinate with Import Production/QC and accounting for confirmation of claim deduction in releasing payment

CUSTOMS:

• Investigating and compiling Customs Issues for exportation to Worldwide Countries
• Determine commodity HS Code, duty rate and proper description for some imported apparels, materials / accessories
• Working with Customs Broker to obtain binding ruling for import products for EU, UK, USA and Canada
• Liaise and coordinate with accounting department and customer services for customs related enquiries
• Provide import customs requirements to customer service representative, and/or customers directly
• Maintain data base system with update product customs data such as MID#, HS Code, Category #, full description etc
• Handle Customs Exam and provide all necessary additional information

• Deal with customer’s forwarder and broker for shipment to EU, UK, USA, International and provide MID details for shipment customers clearance

OTHERS:

• Train, guide and maintaining Freight & Logistics team to ensure performances are met
• Responsible for the overall Freight & Logistics service level , cost efficiency and effectiveness
• Liaise with Director of Import and Logistic to manage special freight and logistics projects as and when assigned by senior management.

• Assist VP of Supply chain with effective and efficient logistic management operation to meet company goals and objectives.
• Other duties as directed and handle special projects as requested by top management.

REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelors or Master’s degree in Logistic or Supply Chain Management preferred.

· 5-10 years of international freight management experience

· 10 years of experience in a management role within Import/Export air and ocean freight operation

· Direct working knowledge of transportation processes and documentation including applicable safety and transportation law.

· Working knowledge of International Import/Export Shipping & Documentation

· Strong negotiation skills and Excellent verbal and written communication

· Strong working knowledge of storage, packing and shipping techniques

· Must be able to demonstrate strong customer service skills in order to build and maintain lasting relationships with key business partners both internal and external

· Traffic or customs experience would be an asset

· 3PL Operations, Warehouse, and Transportation experience is preferred

· The ability to work effectively with multiple groups to drive goals.

· Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

· Extremely organized with excellent follow-up and prioritization skills

· Computer skills including MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, database software knowledge preferred
