Responsibilities:
Report to work each day, and attend the morning job site meeting, during which the day’s activities will be discussed.
Organize necessary tools for the day’s work at the beginning of the shift.
Assist superintendent or foreman in setting up lasers or levels and establishing the required layout of day.
Do as you are instructed by your supervisor, provided it is safe to do so, and you understand what is required, if you have questions, ask.
Participate in Chew Excavating Ltd. training program.
Ensure that all equipment that is not functioning properly is reported to your supervisor as well as if more fuel is required for pumps and saws.
Testing of sewers and pressure mains.
Mandrilling of ducting.
Installing shoring or trench cages in excavations as required.
Inspect the site at the end of the shift to make sure no tools have been left out.
Ensure that all open excavation, manholes etc. are adequately barricaded.
Attend meetings with superintendent, foreman and senior pipe layers on upcoming tasks, and advise if materials for the tasks are on site.
Provide training and advice to labourers.
Attend and participate in all tailgate meetings.
Ensure that before you, or anyone else, enters a confined space, that you have been properly trained and understand the procedures for entering a confined space.
Double check with supervisors, before work commences, that BC 1 Call has been notified, and all other utilities in the area have been contacted, and all services have been located.
Abide by the requirements containing in the Chew Excavating Ltd. safety manual.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
3-5 years of experience in a similar or related role
Valid class 5 BC drivers’ license
The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of pipe and fittings
Thorough skills in working with concrete, be able to mix grout and bench manholes.
Have a valid driver’s license and be able to safely operate company vehicles.
Have a thorough understanding of Chew Excavating Ltd. safety manual
Have a full understanding on how to read plans
Have a thorough understanding of man drilling ducts, and understand the risks involved.
Have a thorough understanding of hydrostatic testing of pressure pipe, and understand the risks involved.
Have a good understanding of levels and grades for pipe laying, road construction, and site grading.
Have a thorough understanding in an air testing sewer pipe, and understand the risks involved.
Have an understanding in shoring requirement for excavations, and be able to realize what is safe and what is not.
Knowledge and Skills
