Sparta is a modern manufacturing facility located in Cocagne NB that designs, builds and installs C&D recycling systems, organic processing systems, and also develops solutions for resource recovery.
We design and manufacture state-of-the-art equipment and integrate key processing equipment that best fits each system, depending on material composition, available markets, and processing goals that our clients may have.
This is a growth opportunity for an accounting professional that wants to learn the financial and accounting intricacies of a manufacturing business by working closely with our operational teams.
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant with a continuous learning mindset.
The Role:
The incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions, administering the insurance programs, providing support on tax matters, overseeing payroll and managing employee benefits. This role is supported by a full-time junior accountant and reports to the Director of Finance.
Specific Responsibilities:
Manage all accounting aspects of the company’s operation including account receivables and accounts payables, cost accounting, daily banking transactions, and keeping ledgers neat and organized. The incumbent will also be responsible for researching accounting issues where necessary, adhering to internal control policies, responding to ad hoc requests sent to our accounting department, and participating in the preparation of required information for budgets, forecasts, business reviews and audit schedules.
Manage the company’s insurance programs including preparing renewal documents for negotiations, providing bonding, LOC and insurance information to our team for existing and future projects, preparing LOC as requested, handling health plan applications, and managing any issues related to these programs.
Conduct research on tax matters, address CRA requests, ensure timely remittance of HST and QST filings, handle questions on Canadian & US sales tax, and prepare dividend calculations and declarations.
Oversee and manage payroll services by ensuring accurate time reporting, proper employee commissions, appropriate pension and group insurance deductions, and up-to-date vacation reporting. The incumbent will also manage Worksafe NB and employee benefit programs to ensure full and timely submissions and reporting.
Qualifications:
Fluency in French and English
University degree in accounting or finance or equivalent
Minimum 2 years accounting experience
Working experience with an accounting firm would be an asset
Skills:
Excellent MS Excel skills
Must possess an exceptional level of professionalism, integrity, and customer focus
Well-developed business acumen and ethics
Ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
Build and maintain good working relationships with cross-divisional teams and external parties
