Summary of Position

Work together with the General Manager, General Superintendent, Project Manager(s), Head Office personnel and Foremen to provide appropriate leadership, supervision and project management in all phases of construction, ensuring the safe delivery, profitability and optimal schedule of all Construction Projects. As a Site Supervisor, your high productivity and quality standards, together with your ability to lead and motivate a workforce are critical to your success. A constant effort in improving the quality of workmanship, Health and Safety, and on-time project scheduling at minimum cost will ensure Niran’s position in the industry as a superb “low-cost producer”. You will create a work environment where continuous improvement to Niran’s operations is constantly supported and encouraged. Your exemplary scheduling and foresight will ensure the continuous productivity and success of the project and create a work environment where continuous improvement to operations is constantly supported. High productivity and quality standards, ability to lead and motivate the workforce, and a constant effort in improving the quality of workmanship, health and safety, and on-time project scheduling, at minimum costs, will ensure Niran’s position in the industry as a superb “low-cost/high quality producer” in the Sewer and Watermain Industry. You acknowledge that you are accountable for the day-to-day operations of the project and will provide support to the Project Team.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Professionally represent Niran with developers, suppliers, consultants, engineers, municipal authorities, Ministry of Labour and all other agencies involved in the project
• This position requires full time on-site supervision. You must be accessible to clients, consultants, municipal and regional representatives; as well you must be readily available to Niran’s staff at all times during the working day.
• Maintain a daily work journal outlining all productions, important events and all safety infractions or near miss incidents
• Coordinate all material ordering, subcontractor scheduling, and confirmation of delivery schedules, including the inspection and verification of quantities delivered to the project to approve (sign off) all material shipments from suppliers
• Provide material takeoffs to confirm accuracy of deliveries and compliance with municipal/regional authority
• Coordinate contingency plans with field mechanics to minimize the impact of equipment breakdowns (i.e. source alternative or replacement equipment)
• Accurately track all rental and in-house equipment to ensure maximum utilization
• Maintain office reporting requirements, daily reports, time cards, operator reports, production verification, quality summaries and enforce company policies
• Ensure all projects have proper layout and all required materials are properly organized and placed on site to ensure uninterrupted work flow and/or production
• Review all locates and existing utility information prior to the start of all projects
• Ensure the correct allocation of manpower and equipment to minimize the cost on all jobs and eliminate all forms of costly waste
• Monitor and supervise the quality of work and production of all sub-contractors, especially hourly sub-contractors, to ensure they are working to peak production and Niran Safety standards
• Administer all Company safety policies, as well as, lead and schedule a minimum of monthly site safety meetings (“toolbox talks”) with all workers. Produce minutes of the meeting and provide the Health and Safety Coordinator with a copy.
• Compile all project performance and costing objectives, allocating job costing codes on all foremen and operators daily reports, as well as, time sheets.
• Prepare a daily, as well as, a weekly cost for all operations
• Coordinate site inspections with municipalities, consultants, sub-contractors and owners, as required. Immediate rectification of any deficient work is a must in order to obtain Substantial Completion of the project.
• Track the costs of deficiencies accurately and allocate to the appropriate foreman/subcontractor/supplier or any other party responsible for the deficiency
• Monitor project status and prepare monthly progress billing information. Coordinate with consultant/owner representative to review and agree monthly progress payment certificates (P.C.’s). All P.C.’s must be provided to the office two days following the agreed monthly cut-off date for each project.
• Track all additional extra work and process in accordance with contract obligation. Ensure that all additional work authorizations (W.A.’s) are signed by the consultant’s representative daily.
• Correspond with consultants and Project Manager with regards to all contract discrepancies or adjustments, as required
• Communicate contract requirements to foremen; review production, quality and contract compliance and ensure implementation
• Represent the Company at site meetings with consultants, municipal officials, et al. Maintain accurate records of all project issues and provide corresponding reports to the office for each meeting. Verify that minutes of meetings are accurate and provide written notice to the Consultant immediately if the minutes do not capture accurately what was discussed.
• Provide on-site supervision to job sites where no Niran forces are present. Monitor and ensure contract compliance and provide billing information to office
• Review all contract drawings for discrepancies and coordinate required changes with the field and the office. Ensure advanced scheduling of any required specialty materials to meet contract deadlines.
• Provide proper processing and recruiting of field operators and or labour. All new workers must complete an employment application and provide a Clearance Certificate from the Union prior to hiring.
• Deliver all signed timesheets and delivery slips to the office on a daily basis
• Site measurements – Quantities of all curb, asphalt, earthworks, etc. must be measured and agreed to with the subcontractor and consultant’s representative. The agreed quantities must be provided to the office within 5 days of work completion to ensure timely P.C. certification and processing of all subcontractor invoices
• To ensure Niran’s success your position of Site Supervisor requires you to work as a member of team and not solely as an individual, to ensure Niran’s continued success
• Review project schedules with the General Superintendent and Project Manager. Update them on a weekly basis to ensure that our obligation to Consultants/Clients is truthfully communicated. Immediatelymodify operations to accelerate projects that are falling behind schedule. Delays in scheduling must be indicated in writing to the Consultant/Client immediately. You will be directly responsible for the on-time completion of projects.
• Respond promptly to Consultant/Client requests with a sense of urgency, while agreeing and maintaining accurate tracking of how we get paid for contract work, extra work, change orders or service provided
• Meet with the GM, Project Manager, General Superintendent and Chief Estimator on all projects for project pre-start Tender Briefing and provide input with respect to subcontractors, purchase orders, scheduling, review potential savings opportunities, equipment allocation, crew allocation, etc.
• Resolve day-to-day field personnel issues and provide incident reports for head office files
• Investigate incidents/accidents and provide written reports to the H&S Officer within 12hrs of the incident. Inform the General Manager and H&S Officer of any H&S accident or incident immediately
• Provide written infraction notices to workers, operators, subcontractors, or suppliers on issues that contravene Niran’s policies and Health & Safety Program
• Investigate injuries, regardless of the severity, and immediately contact our Health and Safety Representative and General Manager to investigate and provide timely reporting on all WSIB, MOL, and Union issues
• Investigate deficiencies and advise the GM/PM on how to prevent future reoccurrences, including enforcing written policies to eliminate all deficiencies
• Train our work force on Niran policies. Regularly review operations to ensure that all workers, subcontractors, surveyors, suppliers, etc., comply with our policies
• Monitor and investigate theft, abuse, damage, or conflicts and provide written reports to head office
• Maintain the highest cost efficiency possible for the project including, labour, equipment, materials, subcontractors, etc., and immediately eliminate all unnecessary costs

Salary: $68,892.00-$154,696.00 per year
