Fractional Comptroller

VersaFile Inc. is a Vancouver-based technology services and software company providing intelligent content and process automation solutions. This includes managed services, strategic consulting, implementations and commercial software. We are looking for a part-time Comptroller to competently handle the complexities of having 3 separate companies doing business across different countries and currencies. The Comptroller will be working within our system of connected spreadsheets to help the Leadership team create regular reports and make sense of the patterns that occur with our finances. In addition, the Comptroller will be expected to guide, direct and mentor our full-time Staff Accountant

Our ideal candidate is someone who has experience in US and Canadian financial practices and who is adept at how currency exchanges should be reflected in financial reporting. They are proactive in providing up-to-date and accurate reporting and data to the Leadership team. We are looking for a Comptroller who has a proven track record as a strategic thinker and who can introduce improved processes and systems across the organization.

This is a fractional position, working 8-10 hours per week working remotely with the occasional visit to the Vancouver office.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure that financial numbers are correct and accurate
• Close each month’s books consistently and within a reasonable time frame
• Create regular individual and consolidated monthly, quarterly and annual reports
• Create weekly projects and scorecards and ensure they are accurate and up to date
• Proactively identify current or future issues, possible reasons for why and how to correct them
• Create a rolling 36-month budget and target that is updated monthly
• Prepare for and participate in business strategy and planning
• Conduct financial costing and ROI analysis for special projects and areas of investment
• Conduct analysis and recommendations for operational improvements
• Ensure all accounting and financial activities comply with financial regulations
• Ensure proper recording and reporting principals are followed for our industry
• Direct, provide guidance and mentor for our current accounting staff

Key Attributes and Qualifications:

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) who has practical experience in a private tech firm
• BSc/BA/BCom/BBA specializing in Finance, Accounting or similar degree
• In depth knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices
• In depth knowledge of cash flow management, bank reconciliation and bookkeeping
• Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
• Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel
• Experience using Quickbooks
• Strong attention to detail, coupled with ability to look at the bigger picture
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Fluent in English and eligibility to work in Canada are pre-requisites
