Job Description
Reporting to the Associate Creative Director, the Copywriter will partner with Senior Graphic Designers /Art Directors to develop concepts and will write and edit of creative elements for Shoppers Drug Mart, Pharmaprix and associated brands. This includes copywriting for Marketing Campaigns, National Radio Campaigns, In-store Signage, Website Assets and Email Assets, Marketing Books, Permanent Store Graphics, Digital Media, etc. The Copywriter will be expected to ensure a seemless customer experience across all consumer touchpoints.
The Copywriter will work closely with Senior Copywriters as well as the Associate Creative Director to scope, plan and complete all projects and ensure that they are customer-centric, completed on time and are aligned with Shoppers Drug Mart brand standards.
They will be able to take high level creative and messaging direction and expertly apply it to multiple layouts and assets to form a cohesive marketing campaign. They will have the ability to take the lead on writing and developing concepts as well as execute existing concepts and lead complex digital campaigns while maintaining brand consistency and integrity.
Primary location will be our office at 243 Consumers Rd. Toronto ON . Loblaw has a flexible work arrangement, with a combination of remote and in-office work.
What You’ll Do:
Partner with Senior Graphic Designer/Art Director on concept development and messaging structure for all key campaigns; Develop concepts and copy for all customer-facing materials including In-store Signage, Out of home, newspaper, magazine, digital, direct mail, marketing books, flyer, broadcast (scripts for radio) etc.
Interpret strategic objectives and translate them into tactics that a design team can execute.
Ensure concepts are customer-centric and insights-driven
Attend briefing meetings, status meetings and kick off meetings where scope and scale of projects are discussed and offer insight and expertise on best practices for messaging.
Lead presentations of creative concepts and messaging to various marketing teams and Senior Management.
Ensure all projects meet brand standards and are completed on schedule.
Maintain brand consistency across all marketing communications.
Review talent castings and select the best voices for broadcast
Attend Radio Records and direct talent and production
Work with external agencies/partners and vendors and provide direction/edits and approvals on outsourced copy as the need arises
Use organizational skills to maintain systems and processes that provide structure to workflow of copy within the creative department.
Contribute to the creative process – alone or as part of a group – by generating ideas for marketing initiatives
What You’ll Need:
College or University degree with a focus on writing and communications
3-4 years of experience copywriting/advertising/communications. Retail copywriting experience, in-depth knowledge of pharmacy, digital and radio scripting are necessary.
Detail-oriented and able to understand business implications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proofing and editing skills. Copy reviewed by their supervisor should be left largely unmodified.
Experience, researching, writing & editing marketing materials.
Conceptual thinker, loves to collaborate and share big ideas
Displays understanding of brand, industry and business needs.
Demonstrates creative thinking/problem solving.
Strong understanding of best practices usability for digital media
Detailed understanding of web information architecture and design
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Superior multi-tasking skills with ability to operate under a fast-paced environment with tight timelines.
Ability to work independently and take on a leadership role when required.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
