Municipality of Yarmouth Looking for Accounting Clerk at Yarmouth, NS Full Time

Position Title: Accounting Clerk

Designation: full time, permanent, 6-month probation

Reports to: Director of Finance

Hours of Work: Four days per week, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Salary Range: $40,280 – $60,420

Job Summary: The Accounting Clerk is responsible for assisting the Finance Officer with payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, filing and organizational duties.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

• Assist and develop competency in
• Accounts payable processing functions
• Non-tax accounts receivable processing functions, including invoice preparation
• Payroll administration, including payroll tax calculations & submissions, T4 preparation
• Preparing HST, Worker’s Compensation, pension and any other government reporting requirements that arise
• Assist Director of Finance in report preparation and financial analyses as required
• Oversee accounts payable and non-tax accounts receivable functions, including invoicing & bill payments (preparing cheques for signatures and distribution)
• Assist in preparation of annual audit documentation
• Provide back up support to the Property Information Manager’s position
• Petty cash oversight
• Act as backup for Property Information Manager, as required
• Assist with the Municipality’s procurement by:
• Creating procurement documents as directed
• Receiving and cataloguing competition responses
• Support funding applications from various department
• Participate in job specific and organizational specific training as required
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or the Finance Officer

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 academic or equivalent
• Accounting diploma from Community college or degree in a business administration program, (focus on accounting would be an asset)
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in accounting and payroll administration functions using computer applications preferred
• Must be bondable
