Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP is seeking a Legal Talent Manager to join our friendly, collaborative and dynamic team in the Vancouver office. This is a newly created role reporting to the Legal Talent Director.
The Role
Working closely with the Legal Talent Director, this position plays a key role in managing the summer and articling student program in Vancouver and will be responsible for associate secondments and lateral recruitment. In addition, they will support the management of associate programs. This position can be full-time or 80%, depending on the successful candidate’s preferences.
Responsibilities
Support the development of recruitment and other talent strategies, including enhancing Norton Rose Fulbright’s profile both internally and externally;
Play a key role in student recruitment processes, including acting as a liaison to law schools and as a firm representative for law students interested in joining the firm;
Lead specific strategic initiatives relating to law students (law school sponsorship, liaising with student clubs, developing fellowships etc.);
Work closely with Canada’s Head of Diversity & Inclusion to implement strategies to attract and retain a diverse talent pipeline and to ensure that our people processes are inclusive;
Manage all aspects of the summer and articling student program, including orientation, rotations, mentorship programs, secondments, social events and other ad hoc initiatives;
Manage student training, including identifying training needs, developing and presenting training programs and/or liaising with appropriate presenters;
Manage the performance evaluation and associate hireback process for articling students;
Manage all aspects of associate secondments;
Manage all aspects of lateral associate recruitment including preparation of job posting, vetting applications, coordinating interviews, preparing offer letters and onboarding;
Support the Legal Talent Director and practice group Chairs with the associate program, including annual performance evaluations and compensation process.
Skills and Experience Required
Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a lawyer (experience in a private practice setting is helpful);
Demonstrated interest and experience with student recruitment initiatives, and mentoring;
Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, management/leadership and multi-tasking skills; and
Ability to work independently, take initiative and think strategically in a fast-paced setting.
