Description :
The Montréal West Island IUHSSC is currently looking for Human Relations Agents to fill various permanent full-time positions and replacements in the Measures Application (MA) Department of the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres in Westmount.

At the Batshaw Centres, you will contribute to the safety of English-speaking children who are affected by neglect, rejection and physical, sexual and/or psychological abuse. These children may also be at risk by behavioral, mental or physical health problems, or difficult socio-economic conditions. The Measures Application Department (MA)

After an initial summary analysis, almost half of the reports in youth protection are transferred to the Evaluation and Orientation (EO) Department for a more in-depth investigation. If the child’s safety and/or development are considered to be compromised, this service implements protective measures (with the parents’ consent or as part of a court order) and initiates an intervention plan for more urgent matters. Afterwards, the Measures Application Department (MA) takes over. It ensures that the intervention plan is updated and perfected in accordance with the agreement reached.

As a Human Relations Agent (HRA) for the Measures Application Department, your goal will be to end the harmful situation and prevent its recurrence by working towards the rehabilitation of the children and their families. You will use your skills in clinical assessment and intervention, service planning and coordination, and youth and family law. You will mobilize your advanced knowledge of child biopsychosociology (developmental, attachment and bereavement theories, etc.) to guide your interventions. You will be supported by specialists in clinical activities, managers, independent experts (e.g. physicians), lawyers, your colleagues from different disciplines and an expert system.

More specifically, you will be required to:

• Gather information necessary to continue interventions in accordance with the established agreement (e.g. obtain court order and status information);
• Establish initial contact and continue the clinical assessment of the child and of the family system in a structured manner supported by standardized tools;
• Ensure the deployment of intervention plans at the level of intensity required by the situation;
• Orient the activities of internal (e.g. educators) and external (e.g. school, CPE, community organizations, public safety, etc.) stakeholders;
• Meet regularly with children and adolescents on an individual basis and accompany them using an approach based on a positive vision of the person (capitalizing on their strengths, resources, potential and resilience);
• Accompany families of origin in the development of new skills (e.g. conflict resolution and communication skills, new educational techniques, etc.) in order to promote the child’s reintegration;
• Ensure that children who have been removed from their environment are helped to consider new life trajectories and to project themselves into alternative scenarios, without breaking with their community of origin;
• Intervene urgently in crisis situations;
• Add all relevant information to the child’s computerized file (PIJ platform).

Work schedule varies according to the needs of the department: 9 AM to 5 PM, 10 AM to 6 PM, 11 AM to 7 PM or 12 PM to 8 PM

Requirements :The desired candidate:

• Has a bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines: social work, criminology, psychology, sociology, or human relations*;
• Is able to establish a therapeutic relationship with English and French speaking clients;
• Possess a valid driver’s license and a car (mileage reimbursed);
• Is available full time during the day and is willing to work outside of regular hours when an emergency requires it.

Desired Skills :

• Ability to recognize signs of physical and/or emotional abuse in children;
• Ability to intervene in a crisis situation;
• Be able to adapt to the particularities of various cultural, religious, racial and sexual identities;
• Know the community and institutional resources (health and social services network, education, etc.) available;
• Be familiar with the Youth Protection Act (YPA) and other elements of the legal, regulatory and normative framework applicable to youth protection (e.g. Act respecting health services and social services, Regulation respecting the review of children’s situations, frames of reference, Harvey Report, etc.);
• Be able to work at a fast pace to meet the deadlines of the YPA and deal with various urgent situations.
