Job description
5 Prime Sciences uses insights from human genetics to accelerate drug development and increase return on investment in the life sciences. Using unique datasets and advanced human genetics analyses, as a spin-out from the Richards Lab at McGill University, 5 Prime has been able to grow rapidly and help large pharmaceutical companies, biotech and venture capital companies.
5 Prime Sciences is seeking a highly detail-oriented Data Intake Specialist to read scientific literature, extract and input metadata, and support the scientific team. The successful candidate will assist a team of bioinformaticians, clinicians and statistical geneticists at 5
Prime Sciences to identify novel drug targets for our partners in the biotechnology industry.
Requirements
– Masters or PhD candidate in human genetics, genetic epidemiology, or a related field.
– Must be located in Quebec, Canada.
– Ability to efficiently read and interpret scientific literature, especially related to human genetics.
– Ability to perform repetitive tasks with a high degree of accuracy is required.
– Basic understanding of concepts in GWAS, Mendelian Randomization, human genome builds, case-control studies, meta-analyses, etc.
– Knowledge of scientific literature databases (e.g. PubMed, Google Scholar).
– Familiarity with existing GWAS data repositories and cohorts (e.g. GWAS Catalog, UK BioBank, MAGIC, GIANT, FINNGEN) would be an asset.
– Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
– Proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets would be an asset.
– Experience using Zotero or other reference management sowares would be an asset.
Responsibilities
– Reads scientific papers and prepares material for data intake.
– Transcribes source data into the required electronic format, as per data intake guidelines.
– Reviews data for errors or missing information and resolves any discrepancies.
– Inputs data into the internal data repository and regularly updates it with information from new publications.

Languages
The applicant will have high-level proficiency in English reading, writing and presentations. French language skills are an asset.
