This position is primarily responsible for providing support with the financial close process, reporting to the Accounting Services. The Senior Accountant is expected to work closely with the FSS, BPO, COE and Supervisor to work through the financial close process to produce financial statements in accordance with AbbVie’s policies and procedures, US and CDN GAAP. Activities include, but not limited to:

Key Responsibilities

General accounting:

• Participate in the financial close process: prepare accruals, journal entries, requisitions, reclassifications, and allocations, as well as variance analyses.
• Managing the accounting of the Canadian Affiliate (in accordance with the Canadian generally accepted accounting principles).
• To assist in the completion of the Sarbanes–Oxley Act (SOX) yearly documentation and testing requirements, including AbbVie Canada’s internal and external audits.
• Oversee the accounts and reconciliations for intercompany billing.
• Support various teams such as Legal Affairs, Human Resources, Medical Affairs, Clinical Site Management and Procurement with reporting and analysis, as needed.
• Maintain the inventory costing process for AbbVie Canada (i.e., coordinating with various groups including Supply Chain, Financial Planning &
• Analysis, Transfer Pricing and Finance Shared Services).

Other activities:

• Preparation of various government statistical reports.

Education / Experience Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, including Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
• Three to five years of experience in accounting services.
• Good knowledge of the Canadian generally accepted accounting principles, internal controls, SOX, and financial reporting.

Essential Skills And Abilities

• Experience with SAP and other accounting systems preferred.
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Solid understanding of inter-company transactions and project accounting, competencies in accounting that range from intermediate to advanced.
• Expertise in fundamentals of financial planning and analysis.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
