As a world leader in the design and manufacturing industry, Active Exhaust is seeking an eager and enthusiastic Robotic Weld Technician for our Afternoon Shift to join our successful Toronto team immediately. We are looking for a talent with solid professional skills.
Position Overview:
The Robotic Weld Technician/Afternoon Shift is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and improving AEC robotic weld cells and automated work centers while ensuring that systems and processes are in place to meet and exceed AEC’s quality and production objectives safely and efficiently.
This position will report to the Facilities/Maintenance Manager.
Hours of work: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM
What you will be doing:
Program, maintain, troubleshoot, and monitor robotic MIG welders & automated work centers. Debug, program and edit robot path/weld parameters, repair, and replace damaged components such as weld guns, troubleshoot and develop root cause analysis of machine and welder issues. Document changes/modifications and obtain quality sign-off to validate changes.
Set up robotic MIG welders and obtain first off
Collaborate with tool maker/jig technician and recommend/implement solutions to resolve part quality issues to meet internal/customer specifications
Inspects welded joints and conducts tests to ensure welds meet company standards and customer job specifications
Replace welding consumables such as MIG weld tips, wire barrels, diffusers, and nozzles as needed
Troubleshoot & fix part sensing/clamping issues. Replace sensors, and cables and perform PLC program/logic troubleshooting.
Verify and maintain sufficient supplies corresponding to the production schedule and inform the manager on what supplies require replenishing
Maintain steady production flow to meet shift production targets throughout the department during the shift
Collaborate with the manufacturing engineer for bottleneck analysis, cycle time reduction, throughput/OEE improvement initiatives
Conductive preventative maintenance and repairs as required
Optimize the use of consumables to look for better products or optimize the process
Conduct training for shop floor associates as required
Contribute to ideas to automate manual operations, assist, and present ROI (return on investment) studies for justification and approval
Participate and contribute in cross-functional APQP meetings to provide input in DFM and GDT analysis, PFMEA, control plans, process capability studies, DOE’s, poka-yoke, error-proof plans, root cause analysis, lessons learned
Contribute to equipment design reviews with assigned manufacturing engineer and supplier(s) using AEC standard Design Review and Sign Off Checklist to record open issues and follow up for successful closure
Participate and contribute to assigned manufacturing engineer with all equipment sample runs at the supplier(s) and at AEC to ensure a successful run at rate milestone completion based on TAKT time, internal AQPQ and customer PPAP requirements and standards
Assist in evaluating equipment trial runs and buy-offs with assigned manufacturing engineer for new equipment and retrofits and ensure run and rate, PPH and essential safety regulations are met per AEC, OHSA, ESA and CSA standards.
Conduct training for associates on new equipment and processes, monitor progress and ensure timely and effective handover to production and maintenance using AEC standard Machine Handover Checklist
Participate in process and equipment root cause analysis initiatives and implement solutions to improve and sustain OEE to AEC standards
Maintain an open issues matrix for assigned projects and tasks and ensure timely completion as agreed with the direct manager
Lead and participate in 8D, 5 Why’s, RCA, and CI meetings for customer complaints, and failures and provide appropriate input to resolve issues
Support the implementation of best practices for the department and the development, monitoring and application of KPIs (productivity, cost, quality, safety)

What you bring along:
Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Technologist Diploma in Robotics, Automation, or Mechatronics
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt desirable
Must have (5) years of verifiable experience in troubleshooting and programming GMAW welding process, robots & automated work centers
Intermediated skills in blueprint reading and interpreting welding symbols, specifications
Hands-on experience in pneumatics and electro-mechanical devices
Knowledge of continuous improvement processes
Knowledge of tooling and manufacturing processes
Knowledge of MS Office packages (word, excel, PowerPoint)
Able to work in a fast-paced environment
Solid technical communication skills, self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision
Able to work under extreme demands and tight schedules
Able to accept directions and change directions as required
Excellent English language, communication, and presentation skills (both verbal and written)
Basic understanding of WHMIS, IMDS, Ergonomics, Healthy and Safety regulations
Some travel may be required
