Adastra is seeking a Sr. Azure Engineer/Administrator to join our Managed Services team in Canada to support clients in the Public Sector. We are Canada’s leading Data & AI company, implementing cloud-based solutions for business-critical data and analytics workloads. You are an energetic result oriented individual, with extensive Azure Administration Support experience. You have a strong client facing communication ability, and the skills to effectively direct and advise other support staff. You will work primarily during Canadian business hours, after hours on-call work is required for which, additional compensation is provided. Your expertise may be required to facilitate project deliveries.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Service Management & Compliance
- Monitor and respond to Service Desk incidents, requests, and alerts in accordance with our SLAs
- Contribute to improvement of support processes and case management
- Primary admin contact for internal and external customer support/help desk
- Communicate with customers regarding status of cases and request more details when needed
- Investigate, isolate, and resolve issues
- Ensure all cases are logged and monitored in the ticketing system
- Ensure adherence to our standards as defined by requirements for SOC2 Type 2 and ISO27001
- Ensure security policies and processes are adhered to
- Maintain knowledge base and support documentation
- Engage with Cloud providers, and 3rd party vendors as necessary to resolve incidents
Azure Administration
- Monitor and restart Azure services/clusters/VMs.
- Create and manage swap space on deployed cloud system per customer policies for the deployed cloud systems and environments, to fulfil support obligations.
- Create custom scripts to automate support processes where applicable Ability to Power off/ Down the un-used VMs or services.
- Ability to identify and resolve issues within the Azure environment
- Manage Azure subscriptions and profiles.
- Deploying and Configuring Virtual Networks.
- Orchestrating Routing Paths, especially in a Hybrid Cloud.
- Managing Public and Private IP addresses for your VMs and selecting other Azure resources.
- Monitoring resources and effective use of Azure Monitor / Log Analytics
- Querying, understanding data / schema, filtering & grouping, creating insightful charts and exporting data for focused analysis
- Monitoring internal and customer environments for performance, resource capacity utilization and uptime
- Deploying VMs into Virtual Networks.
- Configuring VM for Optimum Cost, Performance, and Security
- Backing up VMs and potentially providing Fail-over Recovery
- Understand how to deploy, manage, and monitor containers
- Management and implementation of effective storage
- Controlling & securing access, implementing backup and restore processes, implementing archival strategies
- Implementing secure data encryption for data at rest and in use/motion
- Protecting Azure Active Directory accounts against compromise.
- Provide recommendations for reducing the attack surface of Azure resources, and the ability to implement.
- Azure and Azure Active Directory management
- Perform deployments and Solution installations in Azure
- Perform administration activities such as creating, modifying, and deleting users, optimizing remote access, and security access for Azure environment
Required Skills, Knowledge, Education and Experience
- The successful hire will be required to obtain Canadian Security Clearance
- Prior experience in a relevant service and support role
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to function independently in a customer facing context, and within a support team
- Good functional knowledge of Networking, Databases, Software, and Servers in the Cloud, and proven experience supporting these assets
- Experience in supporting and optimizing Backup, Restore, Recovery and high availability processes / configurations
- Experience with:
- Azure defender, Sentinel
- Virtual machine Creation/Configuration, Azure Automation, VNET, NSG, SUBNET
- Azure Firewall, Azure Firewall Policy, Firewall manager
- VPN, EXPRESSROUTE and UDR’s
- Azure DevOps, Pipelines, Storage Accounts, Azure Key Vault
- Azure Virtual desktop, patch management etc.
- Experience in using products such as PowerShell and Office 365, knowing how they integrate with Azure.
- The relevant Azure certifications are advantageous
- Nice to have – Microsoft licensing expertise, especially Microsoft’s Modern Workplace on Azure
- Nice to have – Experience with Infrastructure as a Code (IaC)
- Nice to have – General programming experience, especially basic knowledge in frameworks such as ASP.NET, and programming languages such as JavaScript, SQL Server, and HTML5.
