Responsibilities:
Location
- Markham, Ontario, Canada
ONSITE: This is an on-site role as the hiring team will require the student to work in the AMD Markham office throughout the entire duration of the co-op work term. COVID-19 protocols are being strictly followed.
Program Term
- Hiring three (3) positions as 12-month term with a possibility (no guarantee) for a 4-month summer extension, May 1, 2023 – April 24, 2024
- Hiring one (1) additional position as 12-month term, with later start date August 28, 2023 – August 30, 2024

About the Department
- Position within the Custom Software Engineering (CSE) stability team responsible for quality of select upcoming AMD products and OEM premium notebooks.
THE ROLE
- We have a unique software validation and debug engineering position that provides opportunity to primarily work hands-on to operate and maintain test systems in support of our stability farm test coverage
- You will perform regular stability test coverage, assist team in issue reproduction and debug, and possibility to enhance test case automation when needed.

- This position is a blend of roles in which you will get a mix of hands-on training and experience:
- Test Automation & Farm Quality Engineering
- Debug Engineering
- Application Engineering
THE PERSON
- We are seeking someone who has a passion in software validation
- Willing to do repetitive testing
- Pays attention to subtle details to document defect reproduction steps
- Likes to play with hardware
- Has demonstrated skills in building/maintaining PCs (preferred)
- Has demonstrated skills in scripting (preferred)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and maintain stability test bench on next generation product reference boards or OEM pre-production systems via configuration of software stack (graphics driver, SBIOS, chipset drivers, 3rd party drivers, OS image)
- Leverage automated test infrastructure for daily test kickoff and result collection and reporting.
- You will work collaboratively with others on the stability farm and debug teams, validation engineers, and software developers across the organization as needed.
- May expose to functional test coverage in addition to stability coverage
- You will be responsible for quality, submitting JIRA tickets for defects you uncover, and supporting developers in their investigation of graphics driver related issues.
DEBUG & TEST ENGINEERING RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform initial debug break-ins and hardware debug scans
- Triage issues based on written descriptions
- Collect and analyze failure information relevant to the signatures (including memory dumps, event logs, windbg sessions)
APPLICATION ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Additional opportunities to support customers in reproducing their issues internally at AMD R&D site
- Diagnose the root cause of typical graphics problems and develop practical solutions in hardware/software
- Image, assemble PCs, troubleshoot, and verify solutions
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
- Hands-on configuration and troubleshooting of PCs will become second nature
- Enhanced problem solving to isolate and resolve issues relating to software (driver, application, or OS), system BIOS, or hardware
- Exposure to test automation infrastructure, and potential to implement enhancements to test case and infrastructure automation
- Exposure to debug tools and techniques
- Further develop communications and soft skills through extensive team collaboration, results reporting, and defect ticket documentation
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Interest or experience in software validation or computer troubleshooting
- Willingness and patience to deploy test and collect results as part of your daily routine
- Approach problem analysis methodically, communicate clearly
- Hands-on experience with computer building and/or troubleshooting is preferred
- Python, powershell, or any scripting experience is a bonus
EDUCATION
- Enrolled in BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
- Enrolled in College Degree for Computer Technician/Technologist
