ONSITE: This is an on-site role as the hiring team will require the student to work in the Markham office throughout the entire duration of the co-op work term. COVID-19 protocols are being strictly followed.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Multimedia Drivers team is responsible for leveraging AMD’s hardware capabilities to enable the development of compelling, responsive, high-quality multimedia applications that don’t drain your system’s battery life.
As heterogeneous compute continues to grow within the industry, Multimedia is a key component in the development of leading-edge technology to enable the best possible visual experience.
The CODEC team’s focus is on the Video Encoding and Decoding technologies that are at the core of video playback, video streaming, video conferencing, and video transcoding scenarios. The team delivers components across the entire software stack including firmware, drivers, and application-level interfaces enabling customers to use hardware acceleration for a variety of Video CODECs.
Key Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will be given an opportunity to participate in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC); in time he or she will be expected to fully integrate within the team and provide ownership for specific components and projects. Candidates will gain familiarity with video encoding and decoding technologies and will need to apply them in their work assignments.
- Design and Implement encoding/decoding software under Windows and Linux within the Multimedia Driver and firmware
- Validate functionality for upcoming hardware platforms within emulation environments
- Develop application-level tools to validate hardware and software functionality
- Assist in resolution of customer, quality, and certification issues
- Actively participate in design reviews and discussions
Education Requirements:
- Enrolled within a University Program in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent
Skills and Experience Requirements:
- Software Development experience
- Windows and/or Linux development experience in C/C++
- Proficient in Object-Oriented design & development
- Low-level programming and debugging skills would be an asset
- Knowledge of Video Compression technologies and algorithms would be an asset
- Knowledge of digital video concepts would be an asset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Team player with good communication skills
