Job Summary
AECOM’s Ontario Ecology team is looking for an Environmental Construction Monitoring Specialist/Ecologist to support our existing projects and to grow our capacity to serve clients on challenging and exciting projects across the province. The position may be based out of our Kitchener, Barrie, Hamilton, or Markham office.
The successful candidate will have 2-5+ years of experience conducting environmental monitoring at construction sites. Knowledge and demonstrated experience in the design, installation and monitoring of Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) measures and protection of terrestrial/aquatic habitat at construction sites is required. The applicant will be highly motivated and accountable, enjoy working outdoors, work well collaboratively with other team members, and be an effective communicator.
Individuals should have a background conducting terrestrial/aquatic inventories and surveys, and associated data analysis and reporting. Individuals should have knowledge and experience working with environmental regulations: Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Conservation Authorities Act, etc. Preference will be given to candidates who are Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC) certified.
Strong communication skills, organizational skills, leadership skills, and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment are essential qualities. The position will involve leading or supporting construction site monitoring, and may also involve environmental monitoring and terrestrial/aquatic ecology investigations including field work in support of baseline studies, environmental impact assessments, Species at Risk permitting and mitigation plans, and related scopes of work.

Minimum Requirements
Post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental science or biology or related field, from a recognized University or College
Construction and environmental monitoring experience, including sediment and erosion control inspections and drawing reviews.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently
Ability to work in both field and office environments
Ability to travel for field work
Demonstrated experience conducting and leading teams for biological field work in southern and central Ontario
Valid Ontario “G” Class Drivers License
Preferred Qualifications
Valid RAQS-registration in any: Fisheries Assessment Specialist, Fisheries Compliance During Construction Specialist, Environmental Monitoring During Construction
Valid CISEC certification
Water Quality sampling and interpretation
Valid Standard First Aid + CPR
Experience writing and preparing technical reports
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Has access to a vehicle for conducting field work
