Purpose of the Position
The Senior Construction Manager (RFR) is the most senior construction leader on the RFR Project. This individual is part of the CanAtom Senior Leadership Team and has day-to-day/priority reporting accountabilities to the RFR Project Director, with functional accountability to the Aecon Nuclear Director of Construction. This individual is responsible for the successful construction execution of all scopes of RFR (all units).
Key Responsibilities
Ensures the RFR Project is supplied with competent and qualified trades (including trades leadership) resources of such quantity to meet Project execution needs.
Leads the resolution of labour disputes through collaboration with site EPSCA SPOC and Aecon Labour Relations Manager, and maintains a strong relationship with the building trades.
With support from the Aecon Nuclear Director of Construction, standardizes and monitors execution against best practices and all Aecon/SNC-Lavalin and OPG requirements.
Develops and improves operational processes within the Project in collaboration with relevant peers. Identifies opportunities to improve effectiveness and efficiency of work processes to enable the workforce to deliver optimal results for the client. Incorporates Nuclear specific requirements as required, with a primary focus on strong construction practices
Manages staffing requirements and resource sharing for the Construction teams. Hires and develops construction professionals with a focus on supporting critical succession management. This includes direct management and development of the CanAtom Construction Managers and active management of succession planning for future needs within the CanAtom construction department.
Oversees all site execution matters and ensures strong performance of all construction work to the agreed upon standards and objectives
Oversees all site safety and human performance issues related to construction activities to drive a strong safety culture. Collaborates with the project Safety Manager to ensure issues are resolved promptly and avoided/ mitigated as often as possible
Maintains a positive and effective business relationship with the CanAtom JV parent companies (Aecon and SNC-Lavalin) and the client’s construction counterparts.
Ensures all project execution resources have received the required training and identifies opportunities for additional training when required
Ensures construction work is performed within quality system requirements
Performs observation and coaching duties as it related to delivery of RFR construction activities.
Required Knowledge & Skills
Minimum of 10 years construction experience, with 5+ years at a leadership level
Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as; technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling and safety requirements
Experience in managing major refurbishment or complex Nuclear projects
Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blue prints and specifications
Must have a full appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry
Demonstrated Leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills
Extensive knowledge of self-perform trades work, estimating and employee relations required.
Requires proficient trades union relations management skills, and a solid understanding of union agreements applicable to the work
Experience in the Nuclear Industry an asset.
OPG Security clearance is required.
