The Opportunity

The Alberta Energy Regulator’s (AER’s) mandate has expanded to include new areas of resource development, including minerals. This expansion is part of the Alberta government’s economic recovery plan to diversify the economy and accelerate growth in new and emerging sectors. As the Materials Handler, you will play a critical role in the Emerging Resources team’s efforts to acquire geoscience data to better understand and characterize Alberta’s mineral resource potential.

As the Materials Handler, you will support activities at the Mineral Core Research Facility (MCRF) located in Edmonton including inventory review and management of rock samples and cores, operating lift trucks, shipping and receiving, maintaining a clean and organized warehouse, and supporting ongoing field work and analytical activities. You will be responsible for the safe and effective operations within the MCRF.

Your Key Responsibilities:

• Manage geological materials (e.g., rock, soil, aggregate, etc.) currently in storage at the MCRF for analysis. This will include locating material, reviewing inventory (e.g., count, weigh, photograph, label), updating inventory lists, and re-packing material for shipping.

• Operate an Order Picker and a Reach Type Lift Truck to move, load, and unload drill core, pallets, and rock samples at the MCRF.

• Accurately and efficiently complete core changes at the MCRF. This will include locating drill core using inventory lists, and physically moving core boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.

• Prepare geological materials for wide array of analysis. This will include cutting rocks and/core with specialized rock saws, and properly labelling and bagging samples in preparation for shipping.

• Maintain a clean and organized warehouse.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent education is required.

• 2+ years of material handling experience in a warehouse setting.

• Experience operating Class 2 Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks (e.g., Order Picker, Reach Type Lift Truck). Industrial Truck Association – Class II certificate required.

• Familiarity with MS Office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel).

• Strong time management and organization skills.

• Strong communication skills both verbally and written.

• Ability to working individually and as a team.

Additional Requirements and Information:

• All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time of application.

• Pre-placement Medical required.

• Physically capable of lifting heavy objects (e.g., core boxes, rock and soil samples) without assistance (up to 50 lbs).

• Must be able to stand, climb, bend, reach, crouch, kneel, and stretch for extended periods of time.
