NFS is a provincial service that is committed to providing nutritious, healthy, high quality meal service to patients, residents, staff, visitors and the community. This position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident and customer experience. Under the general supervision of a Food Services Supervisor, they will use strong customer service, teamwork and organizational skills to: Packaging, portioning food items, preparing food items according to set guidelines and menus, and preparing meals for patients and/or customers according to the prescribed diet. Must adhere to Food Safety and AHS Standards. Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment. Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines. Complete other food service duties as assigned. Typical duties will also include: Manual Material Handling: Pushing and/or pulling carts that weight up to 250lbs. Bending, lifting and/or carrying items up to 46lbs. Will include repetitive work, putting away stock items and/or replenishing areas. Manual dishwashing, cleaning, ware washing, sanitizing of equipment, dishes, and tables where food is prepared. Patient meal delivery to patients, pick up of soiled meal trays, and stocking of nourishment center in units. Assisting patients with menu selection, meal set up and any food request compliant to their dietary restrictions and/or other requests the patients might have.

Description:

As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must also be able to complete repetitive work for long periods of time. Must be able to read, write and orally communicate clearly using the English language and demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Candidate must be able to multi-task, have strong organizational skills, and demonstrates ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Ability to show respect to all people is essential. Have a minor understanding of computer work as required for employee access to online training and to access employee’s email and reporting. Preference will be given to those with customer service training and a Food Safety Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years of work-related experience in a food service environment or restaurant setting is preferable. Preference will be given to those with customer service training and a Food Safety Certification. Food service experience Experience in a hospital or long term care environment. Experience with inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates and minimizing waste while utilizing First In, First Out procedures. Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment. WHMIS training.
