The instructor is a member of the Continuing Care (CC) Education & Practice Development team in Edmonton Zone (EZ). They are responsible for leading the planning, coordination, implementing and evaluating of CC education and orientation. As the education provided by this position supports the clinical practice of frontline staff, this position collaborates and partners with operational areas across CC EZ. Key Responsibilities: Plans, develops, delivers, maintains, and evaluates orientation for frontline, administrative and out of scope staff within CC EZ. Collaborates with program areas to identify gaps in knowledge that span across CC; plan and develop education to promote clinical competence to address gaps. Collaborates with Provincial and CC stakeholders to plan and implement education related to changes in policy, procedures, protocols, clinical practice initiatives and technology that impacts and supports best practice and quality improvement. Provides leadership/mentorship support to team members including program-based educators/clinical nurse educators, professional practice leads, clinical quality coordinators and frontline staff to further facilitate staff learning related to CC and Program level initiatives. In time learning that impacts across CC EZ frontline clinicians to respond to CC priorities and staff learning needs. The instructor adheres to a professional Code of Ethics and AHS policies and procedures. As a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse in Alberta, the instructor is responsible and accountable for his/her nursing practice as defined by their regulatory College.
As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Baccalaureate Degree in Psychiatric Nursing required. Demonstrated strong and effective communication and organizational skills. Leadership skills including demonstrated ability to work with various partners and having decision making responsibilities and the ability to inspire, influence change and build confidence in others and use critical thinking to guide decisions. Proven ability to establish, foster and maintain effective working partnerships (both internally and externally) to achieve organizational goals within assigned work. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development is an asset. Physical Exertion: Frequent physical demands including lifting, pulling, and pushing, and moving equipment; standing for extended period of time; sitting for an extended period of time. The successful candidate will work in different settings for environments and must be able to carry supply bags which weigh approx. 35-50 lbs. Possibility of shift work and extended hours. A minimum of 3 years of recent health care experience is required as well as a broad knowledge of all programs offered within the Continuing Care portfolio.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of adult learning principles and knowledge of a variety of capacity building methods is an asset. Demonstrated project management skills. Experience with use of data in support of quality improvement is an asset. Technical skills in computer software and programs such as Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Skype and Zoom to deliver virtual education is an asset.
