Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Successful completion of a Unit Clerk post-secondary certificate program required. Equivalencies in education may be considered. . Excellent organizational and time management skills to efficiently organize and prioritize workload in a rapidly changing environment. Ability to be self-directed motivated and exercise independent decision making and problem solving skills. Basic computer skills and proficiency in the following computer applications: MS Office – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Internet. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact and maintain effective and respectful working relationships in a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal. Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to exercise judgment, professionalism, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential issues and patient information. Compliance with the AHS Hand Hygiene policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Unit Clerk in an acute care setting preferred. Renal experience preferred. Experience using and knowledge of the following applications: Netcare, Clinibase, OACCS, Renal PARIS, SCM, ESP scheduling, payroll and ALTRAbase preferred.
