This is an exciting opportunity at the Strathcona Community Hospital. The facility offers a 24/7 Emergency Department and a variety of Ambulatory, Laboratory, and Diagnostic Imaging services. The Unit Clerk, under the general supervision of the Manager, serves as the point of first contact in matters concerning the efficient administration of the Emergency Department. The emergency department unit clerk is responsible for: The management of incoming and outgoing telephone calls, greeting and directing patients/visitors, and managing patient records/charts. Relaying and coordinating information related to admissions, transfers and discharges of patients, diagnostic testing, booking appointments and patient consults.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Graduate from a recognized Unit Clerk course, including medical terminology, or equivalent and/or acceptable previous experience is required. Minimum of 1 year recent experience in a Unit Clerk position (acute care setting preferred, preference will be given to those with Emergency experience). Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work with minimal direction. Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt to the needs of the department. Connect Care training with ED clerk role access preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with recent Connect Care experience
