The Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, the only specialized healthcare facility for infants, children, and youth in central and northern Alberta, is looking for a dedicated, caring Unit Clerk who would like to make a meaningful contribution and join their team. The Stollery Children’s Hospital accepts patients from birth to 18 years of age. Patient populations may include general pediatric medicine, neurology, metabolics, nephrology, pulmonary/respiratory, mental health, oncology, hematology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, and general surgery. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Unit Clerk is responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients, and families while maintaining the confidentiality of patient information and adhering to the policies and procedures of both the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) and the Stollery Children’s Hospital. The Unit Clerk utilizes critical thinking, multi-tasking, and the ability to prioritize multiple competing requests for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing patients, visitors and healthcare professionals, training new hires/precepting students, unit supply coordination, and assisting in the coordination of patient tests and follow-up appointments. Your practice will provide holistic, professional, safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. Within the Stollery Inpatient Float pool, there are opportunities for professional growth, which include participation in unit-based safety/education sessions, unit quality councils, as well as broader AHS initiatives. Staff in this position will be cross-trained to support inpatient units including winter surge beds.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Experience working with pediatric populations and families. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, problem-solving, organizational skills, and effective time management. Strong decision-making and critical thinking skills. Ability to adapt and work within a fast-paced, and time-sensitive environment with competing responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to the candidate with a minimum of 1 year of acute inpatient experience. Connect Care training considered an asset.
