Field Technologist / Logistics Coordinator
InnoTech Alberta is seeking a Field Technologist (Logistics Coordinator) for the Environmental Services team who will be responsible for multiple data management projects that involve the biodiversity monitoring of aquatic and terrestrial data, fieldwork, inventory management, and data QAQC. This position will also be responsible for equipment management and procurement for a large-scale biodiversity monitoring program throughout the year and detailed yearly budgeting for equipment needs. Scheduling meetings and utilizing project management software may also be required.

InnoTech Alberta works collaboratively with Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI), an arms-length, value-neutral, scientific organization that measures and reports on the health of Alberta’s Biodiversity. The ABMI conducts world-class monitoring of more than 2000 species and habitats throughout Alberta.
Areas of responsibility will include (but are not limited to) the following:
Actively participate in and contribute to the planning of projects, coordination, and logistics of collection seasons.
Provide logistical support to numerous field staff in a variety of field conditions (e.g., remote locations, extreme weather conditions, often with limited accessibility).
Provide feedback on new hires; facilitate training/mentoring of technical staff.
Theoretical and practical instruction of science-based protocols, safe operating procedures, and hazard assessments.
Development and renewal of safe operating procedures and hazard assessments.
Equipment maintenance and modification.
Integration and operationalization of new technology and new protocols in the field program.
Quality assurance and control of protocols tasked to field crews and incoming data.
Provides communications counsel and direction for key projects within the assigned portfolio.
Conducting field work when required.
Arranging all logistical considerations associated with large-scale, province-wide field work.
Preparing materials and information for the following field season.
Working with other field operations staff to ensure that all safety training is complete before field operations begin.
Assists in the training and upkeep of training certifications for All Terrain Vehicles (ATV), Bear Awareness, Agro, Chainsaw Safety, and Flat-water Canoeing.
Qualifications;
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in biological sciences, forestry, or environmental management
Minimum one year related experience working in remote field situations and previous schedule coordination activities
Understanding of field research and data collection
Experience coordinating people and equipment
Previous ABMI student experience and working knowledge of field research and data collection will be an asset
Ability to p rioritize multiple field requests from within the assigned field area
Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines within a fast-paced environment
Strong, effective, and creative communicator – both written and oral
Self-motivated, w ell-organized, results-oriented, and effective time management
Strong computer skil ls
Knowledge of ABMI protocols (both terrestrial and aquatic) would be considered an asset
