Lacombe Hospital is an acute care hospital with a busy emergency department as well as acute care, day surgeries, restorative care, palliative and long-term care departments providing service for the Community and surrounding area. This is a working level Laboratory Assistant I position utilizing technical skills and judgment performing a diverse range of procedures within the scope of practice of a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA). Qualified MLA’s will be considered for this position. Applicants must be able to work independently and perform all aspects within the scope of practice of an MLA including all specimen procurement and blood collection procedures as well as cardiology and urinalysis including microscopic analysis.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited urinalysis course including microscopic analysis. Urinalysis experience including microscopic analysis is required. Cardiology training and experience including ECG’s and Holter Monitors. Able to perform all blood collection procedures including venipuncture, micro-punctures, blood culture collection as well as collections on all patient ages including newborns, pediatrics and geriatrics. Connect care/Epic LIS experience and knowledge is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. MUSE and Cardioday experience. Familiar with Clinitek Advantus. Current registration with CSMLS. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and promote teamwork.
