This RRL position involves mainly evenings, working weekend day shifts one out of every three. Reporting to the Site Supervisor or RRL Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of automated and manual duties in a multi-skilled, team focused environment including but not limited to: STAT, routine and specialized laboratory procedures, analysis, result entry and report verification, TM duties, equipment troubleshooting, workflow monitoring, Rapid Flu/Covid testing, and specimen collection preparation. Additionally, this position may be required to collect specimens and assist in Bone Marrow collections. This position ensures accurate patient and sample identification as required, ensures sample integrity and suitability as required and documents unusual occurrences and notifies appropriate senior staff member. Performs and documents quality control and assurance programs, taking appropriate action and ensuring proper follow up. The MLT follows and is aware of all safety precautions and practices including WHMIS and participates in the maintenance of a safe working environment. Recognizes unusual or abnormal findings and responds to these in accordance with established policies and procedures. Operates, maintains, and performs troubleshooting on a variety of laboratory instruments and equipment. Takes appropriate action and ensures follow up, as required. Communicates with healthcare professionals regarding patient samples and results. Monitors department supply inventory and acts appropriately to maintain. Validates and assesses various procedures and equipment under the direction of the senior staff, supervisor or manager. Participates in the training, orientation, and performance management of students and staff. Maintains competence through training and competency testing. Performs other duties as required.
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Recent experience in a hospital setting. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs. Working knowledge and problem solving knowledge of Cerner Millenium. Any Canadian equivalency to English 30 or 33 or CLBA score of Benchmark 8 completed within the last six months.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in an Urban RRL setting. 3 years recent experience in Hematology, Chemistry and/or Transfusion Medicine. Working knowledge of Ortho analyzers, Cobas Pro, Sysmex 9000 and ACL TOPS. Experience with current middleware on COBAS and Sysmex analyzers. Working knowledge of reading differentials. Ability to troubleshoot analyzers. Working knowledge of rapid PCR testing. Connect Care completed. Promotes a respectful workplace. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
