Sr. Sales and Service Representative – Ironmaking (CAN)
Allied Mineral Products is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide. We are seeking a Sr. Sales and Service Representative – Ironmaking in our Hamilton, Ontario, Canada location. The Sr. Sales and Service Representative – Ironmaking sells refractory products, and services offered by Allied Mineral Products (“Allied”) to a diverse refractory market, primarily ferrous metal industry related. Supervises 3 rd Party refractory installation contractors. Maintains a high level of written and verbal communication with colleagues at Allied and customers. It is the Senior Sales and Service Representative – Ironmaking’s responsibility to make sure that our employees, subcontractors, and the customers’ employees are working safely.
Key Duties:
Promote, introduce, demonstrate, and obtain orders for Allied Mineral Products at AM Dofasco, Hamilton, Ontario area.
Maintain existing customer sales and pursue new applications (within Dofasco) to maximize sales by working closely to maintain relationships with customers and sub-contractors based on trust, confidence, and reliability.
Where possible introduce new Allied products and pursuing new applications to meet new customer needs.
Assist AMTS (Allied Mineral Technical Services) as required with project work.
Use all resources available at Allied in order to educate, motivate, troubleshoot, and service new and existing customers (Engineering Services Request, Precast Shape Requests, Product Services Request, AMTS and R&D requests).
Oversee and/or supervise refractory installations to ensure quality.
Assist management in the movement and location of service equipment and manpower in the planning of installations.
Maintain and keep current records and customer files, customer orders and quote logs, trial sheets, installation reports, call books in an orderly and updated manner.
Assist in developing and implementing a business strategy for the assigned market and assist in the preparation of the annual forecast for your sales territory.
Responsible for ensuring purchase orders are received and managing invoicing. Update blanket purchase orders as needed.
Submit weekly, quarterly, field lines call reports and communicate effectively with senior management and home office.
Meet daily with cast house coordinator.
Attend weekly or bi-weekly meetings on site/teams.
On call once per month.
On site every day or depending on schedule and progress in the position.
Attend AMP sales conferences in USA. Twice (2) per year. Depending on shutdown schedule.
Vacation is booked around planned shutdown schedules at AM Dofasco.
Develop working relationship with purchasing, implement and manage price increases, new quotations, credits and returns, as necessary.
Work with the credit department to minimize bad debt exposure and reduce A/R days for accounts under your responsibility.
Keep current with competitive products and pricing, and make sure that we can respond with new developments to protect our business and maintain growth. Keep competitive price file and competitive information files current.
Conduct regular comprehensive reviews with all direct reports. These reviews should cover the following: the status of our business; how much effort was given to goals and targets, including how they ended the fiscal year or quarter in terms of sales calls made versus calls planned; the number of call memos and letters for the fiscal year or quarter; the final analysis of budgeted expenses versus actual expenses; the forecast for the coming year and agreeing on a final figure; individual strengths and accomplishments. Describe how these affect their merit increase and career with Allied in such a positive way that they are encouraged to improve their skills.
Oversee management of upcoming orders to ensure materials are available to ship when needed. Responsible for maintaining accurate on-site inventory information in cooperation with customer inventory management team.
Work to expand and reinforce a “climate” of positive attitudes within the department so that the individuals are motivated to achieve maximum results through maximum effort.
Follow Health and Safety protocols, training requirements, and ensure that our employees, subcontractors, and the customers’ employees are working safely.
Follow all company rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a technical or business discipline is preferred, however, not required.
Knowledge of refractories is required; shotcrete, casting and gunite; rams, plastics and mortars.
At least 3-5 years of industrial sales or relevant work experience.
Excellent communications skills and interpersonal skills.
Sound understanding of materials, refractory, and ceramic technical information.
Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
Able to work well with engineers and operators to solve product related issues.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Must be a team player, possess high level of energy, and be self-motivated.
Must have a practical approach to problem solving.
Working Environment
Work out of Dofasco based office trailer and occasionally from home office. Being on-site at Dofasco is essential to learning our cast-house business and building relationships with Allied, Dofasco, Glassrock and other companies’ personnel.
Often working in heavy industry locations.
Required to follow Allied Mineral Products’ Safety & Health policy and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as appropriate when in the production plant.
Required to follow Safety & Health policy of our customers when on their properties.
