Altis Recruitment Looking for Human Resources Generalist at Brampton, Ontario, Canada Full Time

Our client in food manufacturing is seeking a HR Generalist to join their human resources team.

The Human Resources Generalist is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations related to employee and labour relations. This includes administering Collective Bargaining Agreements, handling grievances, managing performance, ensuring compliance with employment legislation, and conducting investigations.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and managers, offering support in areas such as employee relations, performance management, and compensation/benefits.
• Act as the first point of contact for Union/Collective Agreement issues, resolving Step 1 grievances.
• Administer the Collective Agreement and provide guidance to Management/Production on its interpretation.
• Assist in employee incidents, discipline, and terminations, including the preparation and distribution of related documentation.
• Coach employees at all levels on work-related and personal concerns.
• Provide training, coaching, and feedback to management and employees on relevant areas of development.
• Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment.
• Conduct employee exit interviews, identify trends, and make recommendations for effective change.
• Respond to inquiries from employees and managers promptly and with a high level of customer service.
• Update the grievance report and provide metrics.
• Investigate all employee and labour relations complaints, including workplace violence, harassment, CBA/ESA violations, and human rights complaints. Prepare reports with findings and recommendations.
• Participate in and coordinate labour relations procedures, such as grievance meetings, arbitrations, and mediations.
• Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Claims & Return to Work on occupational and non-occupational injuries/illnesses.
• Adhere to and comply with company policies, processes, and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.
• Previous experience working in a unionized environment.
• Working knowledge of HR-related legislation, including but not limited to the Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), Ontario Labour Relations Act (OLRA), etc.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and effective multitasking.
• Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in HR Studies or related field.
• Working towards CHRP designation is an asset.
