We are seeking a Total Rewards Specialist to advise on the best practices for total reward processes and policies; and lead the optimization, enhancement, and administration of our compensation and benefits programs in Canada.
In addition, the role is responsible for providing recommendations on total rewards policies, plan design and program development based on research, data analysis, best practices, legal impact, and the needs of the organization.
We are looking for a teammate with:
5+ years of experience of professional work experience; previous experience in compensation and benefits administration
Completion of post-secondary education
Completion or progression towards completion of CEBS professional designation.
Experience with HRIS applications – Dayforce preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise with plan members, internal team members and service providers.
Proficient with using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Highly organized, with the ability to multi-task, schedule and balance competing priorities to meet deadlines.
Working individually and within a team, in a dynamic, fast-paced and customer-focused environment.
Ability to effectively manage confidential and sensitive information.
Ability to build relationships as a trusted partner with internal clients and external vendors.
Demonstrate resourcefulness and initiative to resolve complex and sensitive situations, understanding the importance of diplomacy and confidentiality.
Strong desire to learn and ability to adapt to changes quickly.
Strong experience with Canadian benefits and retirement programs (including defined benefit pension plans, defined contribution pension plans and savings plans).
Strong understanding of benefits and pension legislation and compliance/filing requirements.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
This teammate will be accountable for:
Compensation
Lead the annual review process of compensation.
Assess market competitiveness and recommend a course of action, as required.
Lead the review and evaluation of existing compensation plans and programs.
Support the delivery of new compensation-related initiatives.
Analyze survey data for all position levels, provide recommendations, identify areas of risk or concern, and prepare salary survey data for both scheduled and ad hoc surveys.
Conduct job evaluations and provide recommendations for levelling.
Work with the P&C Business Partners to deliver compensation recommendations to support recruitment and promotion efforts considering internal equity and external competitive pay practices.
Benefit and Pension Plan Administration
Full-cycle administration of company benefits and pension plans (DB, DC, RSP) – enrollments, terminations, updating life event changes while ensuring compliance to corporate policies and legislative requirements.
Respond to plan enquiries and requests from plan members, P&C staff and third parties. Investigate issues as required.
Work with P&C Business Partners and Payroll as subject matter expert on all elements of APL’s benefits, pension and savings programs.
Work with internal contacts and service providers to resolve claims, coverage and service issues and find solutions/provide recommendations for sensitive and one-off situations.
Recommends and implements improvements to the pension and savings processes in support of providing an effective employee, HR and Manager experience.
Manage & validate monthly payments to pension plan and benefit plans.
Develops administrative procedures to monitor and reduce costs and improve delivery of pension & benefit programs.
Analyzes costs and competitive trends in pension and benefits programs.
Participates in development of pension and benefits policy.
Manage the governance process and documentation for retirement & savings program.
Provide documents for the pension committee meetings and follow up on action items.
Creates and executes employee communications materials.
Assist with and review of government filings, pension plan audits, reporting.
Create/update process documentation related to assigned tasks/projects.
Advises managers and employees on interpretation of plan provisions.
Prepares data and participates in surveys and in reviews of data.
System & Process Automation
Manages the Dayforce Benefit and Compensation Modules configuration, transactions, modifications, and testing as required to automate and streamline Compensation, Pension and Benefits related services/programs.
Initiates changes to Dayforce. processes/ procedures to eliminate problems, improve productivity and enhance the employee experience.
Subject matter expert on Dayforce Benefit and Compensation Modules.
Partnership & Collaboration
Interact with external benefit program vendors and work closely with internal P&C and Accounting team.
Ensure vendors are delivering in accordance to the governing plan documents.
Plan and coordinate wellness events and programs.
Participate in ad-hoc projects, including research and analysis of data and preparation of presentations and reports.
