Aplin has partnered with a BC company to hire an Assistant Site Superintendent! You will be responsible for the smooth day-to-day site operations to ensure that the project is completed on time and budget. You will implement the project plan and schedule for the assigned area or scope of work, ensure safety and quality control, and delegate work to site staff, contractors, and trades. You will take directions from the Lead Superintendent and report back, advising on their areas of responsibility, scope of work, and supervised crews.

Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate leadership in health, safety, and environmental protection on site
• Maintain job site diary/daily log in Procore and prepare a record of the workday daily, including inspections, and track them in Procore
• Participate in project and trade meetings (including meeting with external stakeholders) to monitor and support the project’s ongoing progression
• Study, understand, and be ready to talk about plans, drawings, specifications, contract documents, addenda, and all the contract conditions set by the client
• Know, understand, and adhere to the contractual safety requirements and health and safety legislation
• Be familiar with potential health and safety hazards associated with the project work
• Ensure trades/subcontractors perform a project start-up safety and orientation meeting, and the start-up form and meeting minutes are completed and filed
• Establish contract milestones and project strategy, and clearly state and communicate contract objectives to the site team
• Identify and understand the client’s needs and expectations, and standards and benchmarks to be achieved for each scope of work
• Assist with preparation of the site look ahead schedule (2- or 3-week look ahead) by the master schedule and collaboration with the Lead Superintendent, project manager, and coordinators
• Ensures project’s milestones and completion dates are met
• Prepare a deficiencies list and ensure that all work is completed according to specifications, and government codes and regulations
• Participate in occupancy inspections, walk-throughs, and coordination meetings
• Supervise the assigned site crews and make sure their work is planned and performed efficiently; complete, code, and submit their timesheets to the Lead Superintendent to be sent to HR Payroll
• Seek the advice of the Management and Human Resources for all potentially controversial or questionable matters

Qualifications:

• Supervising for Safety Course must be completed before the start date (proof will be required during the company onboarding)
• Carpentry or any industry-related trade certification is an asset
• Minimum 3 years of construction site supervision experience (preferably with a Construction Manager or General Contractor)
• Excellent knowledge of the Lower Mainland construction industry, and construction techniques and materials
• Recent proven relevant experience
• Knowledge of the sequence of construction
• Ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project quality, schedule, and budget
• Knowledge and ability to use Procore, SharePoint, Microsoft Office Suite, and drawings review and mark-up software (Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, or similar)
• Knowledge of surveying, and ability to verify control points and use precision instruments
• Ability to understand shop drawings and how they are tied to the construction schedule
• Ability to study drawings and specifications early in the job, and to be aware of any environmental conditions of the contract
• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and terminology
• Knowledge of project schedule and project milestones, and ability to identify potential problems and plan solutions
• Knowledge of equipment, material, labor, personal capabilities, and other special requirements
• Ability to plan site layout and temporary services in conjunction with the management team and subcontractors
• Ability to communicate professionally and stay current with correspondence
• Knowledge of all project’s stakeholders, their roles, and responsibilities
• Knowledge of warranty requirements and responsibilities of subcontractors and clients
• Knowledge of proper documentation for final inspection
• Ability to keep accurate records and knowledge of the document hierarchy
• Ability to lead staff and maintain team morale
• Ability to meet deadlines and to work as a part of a team
