OVERVIEW
This individual will assume responsibility for the general accounting functions of Redpath Sugar. This will include compiling journal entries, account reconciliations, sales tax returns, financial analyses, and financial budgets. The successful candidate will have first class analytical and communication skills and possess outstanding attention to detail. The candidate will need to be comfortable presenting their analyses, be able to gain a full understanding of their areas of responsibility and be able to work cross functionally. They will be proactive, ambitious, and keen to develop a broad understanding of the business.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Completing traditional accounting tasks including compiling journal entries, account reconciliations and verifying invoices
Preparing and filing monthly sales tax returns and other annual tax & regulatory filings
Assist in responding to internal audit, financial audit, sales tax audit and corporate income tax audit requests
Preparing quarterly Stats Canada surveys
Monthly analytical review of SG&A and accrual accounts for reasonableness
Preparation of components of the annual budget
Leading weekly presentation on status of customer rebate accruals
Monthly presentation on portion of income statement
Compile and report on daily commodity trading P&L
Initiate daily margin payments arising from sugar and energy positions
Participate in projects, group initiatives, implementations, system upgrades and ad hoc requests
WORK EXPERIENCES
1 to 2 years of accounting experience preferred but not required
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Business
Pursuing CPA designation
Understanding of accounting principles, procedures, and internal controls
Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills
