Fleming and Baron (an ASSA ABLOY company) is a manufacturer of steel doors and frames for the commercial and industrial markets. We are looking to hire a Safety & Compliance Specialist for our manufacturing facility based in Woodbridge, Ontario.
What would you do as our Safety & Compliance Specialist?
As the Safety & Compliance Specialist , you’ll play a key role in the continuous improvement of the environmental, health and safety culture. This will be accomplished through the promotion of best practices and by improving the level of health, safety and environmental awareness, accountability and regulatory compliance.
You’ll also be responsible for coordinating Lean manufacturing programs, and supporting our ISO 14001-2015 certification.
You would also:
Coordinate the day to day EHS (i.e., WSIB and modified duties employee case management) and Lean program activities in the manufacturing and office facility
Be active on the Plant floor and act as a role model for our employees for Safety and Lean methodologies
Participate in the development and execution of H&S and Lean program policies, evaluation systems, and training programs
Co-chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee, including coordination of workplace inspections, following up on corrective actions, and maintaining meeting minutes
Participate in incident investigations and support the preparation of relevant documentation, including as applicable root cause analysis
Research and evaluate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ergonomic equipment options; run test sample groups with Manufacturing employees to gain their buy-in
Conduct H&S orientation and regular program training events
Champion “Health & Safety week” events and initiatives
Build “tool box talk” topic sheets to increase awareness and engagement in the EHS program
Coordinate all aspects of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System including ISO certification, waste audits, permit requirements and pollution control
Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance to internal policies and legislative requirements; support efforts to correct non-compliance issues
Utilize Six-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies to facilitate program improvements
Maintain and monitor KPIs and statistical reporting; Present analysis of trends and related corrective action planning to our management team
Maintain administrative records for EHS and Compliance programs
Other duties as required
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
3+ years of EHS or Compliance experience in a manufacturing environment
Post-Secondary Degree in a related field
Experience conducting internal audits of systems and programs
Experience with ISO, Lean, and Six-Sigma methodologies
Certified First Aider an asset
Certified JHSC member is preferred
Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Industrial Regulations
Ability to work positively with others to gain their buy-in and trust
Comfortable to present and train employees at all levels
Analytical, with problem-identification and problem-solving capabilities
Drive to continuously learn, challenge the status quo and collaboratively implement change
Proficient with computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
Comfortable working in a process-oriented work environment
Proficient English communication skills
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Manufacturing/industrial environment; some dust and noise
Ability to be mobile throughout the 155,000 square foot facility
High degree of computer focus for long durations
