Aston Carter Looking for Financial Accountant at Toronto, Ontario, Canada Full Time

Reporting to the Manager, Investment Finance, this position is responsible for the accounting, analysis and reporting of public and fund investments, using EagleStar, Oracle, and other investment related systems. The analyst will be required to have a solid knowledge of various investment products and form strong working relationships across other departments within the organization and with our external partners. What You’ll Do -Perform daily and month end accounting processes and financial reporting requirements to ensure that all investments are appropriately updated for all required information, on a timely basis ensuring the financial integrity for financial reporting. This will include trade booking/operation, funding, investment valuation, fee computation and investment ledger reconciliations. -Maintain all documentation related to cash activities and investment management reports, documents and correspondence from both external and internal sources. Proactively follow up on outstanding issues. Prepare working papers with appropriate analysis and supporting documentation for financial reporting and audit purposes. -Assist in the interim and year-end audits by providing information requested by external auditors. -Prepare subsidiary financial statements and coordinate relevant documentation to support accounting processes, tax and regulatory requirements. Maintain documentation and have solid understanding of legal entity investment structures and related financial reporting at the subsidiary and OPTrust level. -Maintain and update internal Investment Finance operating procedures and accounting treatment papers for all types of investment assets to ensure that they are current and up-to-date. -Enhance and implement processes to meet the evolving operational requirements of Investment Finance by ensuring appropriate controls and procedural documentation are in place by performing reconciliations, conducting analyses and developing and maintaining periodic (monthly/quarterly) reporting activities. -Proactively identify process inefficiencies and recommend and execute process improvements while considering upstream/downstream impacts. Ability to use technical tools (i.e.: Excel, PowerQuery, SQL, Python, macros, etc.) to analyze large data sets and streamline reporting processes. Provide support for project initiatives focused on data, automation and innovation.

• THIS ROLE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR TRAINING AND TESTING WITH EAGLE STAR– New Investment Accounting system.

CLIENT REQUIREMENTS: A university or college education specialized in finance, commerce or investments or related business experience of 5-7 years obtained by working in investment finance / operations / accounting, or funding accounting at a pension fund or financial / Investment service company . The preferred candidate should be at a minimum pursuing an accounting designation (CPA) or related investment designation. Solid experience with EagleStar, Oracle, Yardi or other investment accounting system is an asset Practical experience with accounts/portfolio structures and multi-asset portfolios and good working knowledge of complex derivative instruments. High level of proficiency in working with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, Word and PowerPoint and working knowledge of programming languages considered an asset
