Role

As ATB’s next Manager, Strategic Communication, you are an experienced communication advisor who is confident in providing strategic direction and communication expertise that aligns with ATB’s strategy and our business goals. Reporting to the Director, Strategic Communication, you will play a crucial role in driving the value of the Strategic Communication team by demonstrating our ability to make it possible by:

• connecting team members, clients, Albertans, and those in markets just beyond, as they navigate change in their world
• informing strategy and the targeted flow of information
• inspiring the right actions to enrich our culture and demonstrate ATB’s commitment to the greater good.

In this individual contributor role (no direct reports), you will work in a matrixed environment, on cross-functional teams to advise on communication best practices. You will be accountable for developing and implementing effective communication plans that target various internal and external audiences and drive business results.

Specific Accountabilities Include

Strategic communication planning and execution

• Develop a deep understanding of ATB’s target audience’s attitudes, motivations, preferences, and opinions, and use that knowledge to create communication plans that drive business and communication goals.
• Work closely with the business, focus on delivering effective communications projects and tactics that address client/team members needs and drive the business forward.
• Identify and capitalize on opportunities to elevate our reputation by bringing our value proposition to life through a multi-channel approach.
• Produce required materials to execute communications plans, such as key messages, audience assessments, project narratives, articles, etc.
• Establish and track metrics and interpret qualitative and quantitative data and information to help show the correlation between communication and business results.

Build collaborative partnerships

• Effectively build relationships within the organization to help achieve business outcomes.
• Provide communications counsel to business partners and leaders that enables them to lead dialogue with their respective stakeholders and teams.
• Demonstrate expertise in dealing with business partners at a strategic level, coaching and counseling them, and influencing thinking in strategic communications.
• Influence and inspire cross-functional teams to support in the collaborative execution of communication tactics and activities.

Advance the role of communication

• Continuously strive to hone your skills and ‘up the game’ in strategic communication at ATB and beyond.
• Actively follow the market, industry, competitors, economic trends, clients – and apply this know-how to communication planning and initiatives.
• Seek out knowledge on innovative trends to adopt within communications solutions and share your learning and expertise with the team.
• Ensure communications’ consistency and effectiveness by following and proactively seeking improvements to processes
• Share feedback, information and best practices with the communications team in team meetings and through team mentorship.
• “Roll up your sleeves” to do what it takes to meet deadlines and deliver effective results.

Requirements

• 4-7 years of progressive experience in the communication field, ideally spanning multiple subject areas including; internal communications, external communications, marketing, or change management
• Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, business or a related field, or a specialized diploma in communication combined with relevant experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
• Excellent interpersonal & collaboration skills – able to build strong relationships and be viewed as a trusted strategic partner internally with team members at all levels, as well as external consultants and partners.
• Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
• Works well under pressure and thrives under tight deadlines
• Strong analytical skills: Able to leverage research and data models/dashboards to build practical data-driven programs that support business KPIs.
• Communication Management Professional certification through the Global Communication Certification Council and/or a membership in the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) or the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) is an asset
• Experience with Agile methodology and practices is an asset
• Experience in Financial Services is an asset
