Reporting to the Supervisor, Work Coordination, this position is responsible for the planning of new projects, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and customer service work. This role assumes the leading role to ensure work is execution ready. This includes determining resource needs, effort hours, material readiness, crew size, permit identification, equipment, etc. The role is responsible for the coordination, monitoring, inspection and quality control of construction work that is contracted and to ensure that work is completed in a safe, efficient and expeditious manner. This position is required to maintain Powerline Technician competencies to ensure effective completion of the planning function tasks outlined below.

What You Get to Do:
On approved work, outline scope, identify resource requirements such as number of people required, skill/competency requirements, and equipment requirements.
Identify permits required to complete the scope such as crossings, environment, etc. and verify timelines with stakeholders.
Verify Bill of Materials for accuracy and ensure material is ordered and delivery schedules to site meeting construction timelines.
Plan outages by coordinating with the System Operations Centre (SOC) and Team and identify any maintenance to be completed during scheduled outages.
Support constructability review of the Engineering design standards and specifications.
Ensure the work is execution ready prior to handover to Scheduling. This includes verification and validation, material readiness, and completing locates and switching plans.
Complete site visits as required and compile data for all stakeholders such Engineering, Forestry, and Survey.
Support data analysis process and incorporate lessons learned to continuously improve the planning function.
Lead and/or participates as directed in the Site kick-off meetings to ensure the project plan and expectations are clearly understood by the project team and the contractor.
Contractor liaison on design, site issues, material and scope of work. Ensure safe work practices of contractors are in accordance with contract specifications, Alberta Safety Codes, OHS, Environment, etc.
Participate in the development of annual contracts, preparation of project tenders.
Review and approve contractor invoices, contractor PCRs, change requests, quality control, etc.
Ensure quality of work is being met as described in the construction and engineering work packages. Provide feedback to contractor or internal crews as necessary.
The role may also perform work similar to the following but not limited to as required and where deemed competent to do so:
Open transformers/switching cubes and other high voltage EQ as required as part of field check.
Test and operate equipment as required
Measure energized lines using a hotline tool – high load routes, project clearances, trespasses.
Climb poles to obtain information off transformers as required.
Respond to outages and assist as required during storm/emergency events.
May be required to perform switching activities when contractor is completing the customer work and during on call situations or unplanned/unforeseen events.
Qualifications:
Valid Journeyman Powerline Technician (PLT) Certificate issued for the Province of Alberta or Inter-Provincial Red Seal Certificate with 5-7 years of experience at the Journeyman level with incident investigation, contractor and contract management and administration experience.
Previous leadership experience is considered an asset.
Project management training and experience is considered an asset.
Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft applications technology programs to complete job requirements.
Must be able to understand contract terms and conditions and the ability to manage to the terms and conditions of the contract.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to document and organize project communications.
Familiarity with relevant legislation – Safety Codes (AEUC), OHS, Environmental, and all applicable Canadian and Alberta electrical and building codes.
