We have an exciting growth opportunity for a HR Generalist to join the Avnan team in Mississauga. Reporting directly to the Controller, this position will undertake all aspects of Avnan’s human resources and office administration requirements. As a results-oriented organization, this is a remote role with varied opportunities to make impactful contributions, as the company expands.
Core Responsibilities
We are seeking an experienced HR Generalist to join our team based out of Mississauga, Ontario. This role will be primarily work-from-home with the required occasional visit to our office.
This role supports the People and Culture functions of the organization, through the planning, development and execution of HR strategies to match the organization’s needs. This role will have both administrative and strategic responsibilities in key functions, such as recruitment, employee relations, office management and creating a positive work environment for Avnan’s close-knit team.
The successful HR Generalist will be dedicated to providing proactive employment and administrative support and guidance to our team. On a day-to-day, you will have the opportunity to provide support to leadership and employees and continue to build a work environment that is safe, positive, and collegial.
In this role, your areas of responsibility will involve (but will not be limited to):
HR Administration
- Administer HR systems including performance and attendance management
- Monitor and maintain budgets
- Lead and support the growth of a strong company culture
- Plan workplace initiatives to enhance morale and staff involvement
- Keep up to date on Federal and Provincial employment legislation
- Ensure company compliance on Employment Standards
- Prepare employment agreements and terminations
- Manage exits
- Act as key advisor on issues of employee relations and employee discipline
- Provide recommendations and resolutions, and where necessary, escalate issues to management and lead workplace investigations
Recruitment:
- Ensure recruitment strategies highlight Avnan’s brand and meets company objectives
- Hire for open positions and adhere to the hiring process
- Evaluate and optimize the hiring process to meet changing organizational requirements
- Maintain a positive candidate experience throughout the hiring process
- Collaborate with department managers to hire according to established criteria
- Manage the Employee Orientation and onboarding process
Payroll
- Processing semi-monthly payroll
- Reconciling payroll sub-ledger to the general ledger
- Remitting payroll taxes and governmental reporting
Office Management
- Office management tasks including coordinating vendor relationships, ordering and maintaining office supplies, kitchen supplies and ensuring employees have the tools needed to perform their work effectively.
- Cross functional department support – Provide support to Operations, Sales/Marketing, Finance as needed
- Ensure that the work environment continues to be safe and the wellbeing of employees is a priority
Human Resources Framework and Process Management:
- Maintain employee handbook, review policies ensuring Employment Standards Act compliance
- Provide support to managers and employees regarding policies, performance management, and HR programs and services
- Administer group benefits program
- Analyze wage and salary data to determine competitive compensation plans
- Review internal compensation levels; survey annual salaries to redress and revise salaries and evaluate company structure
- Coordinate safety & training programs in collaboration with the Health and Safety Committee
- Maintain employee personnel files in compliance with ISO procedures
To be successful in this role, you possess:
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management, business administration or related field. Equivalent combination of education and related experience is acceptable.
- Minimum of 3 years of HR experience in a generalist capacity
- Experience in recruitment is preferred
- Experience in processing payroll is an asset
- Strong communication skills, both written and spoken
- Strong diplomacy skills
- Understanding of employment legislation and Employment Standards
- Resourceful, problem-solving mindset
