The Specialized Training RN is a participant in a PHSA sponsored Specialty Nursing Training Program.
7-week training opportunity in Perioperative Area (Operating Room),followed by a permanent position in this area
The successful candidate will be supporting the adult gynecology surgical services program
The ideal candidate will:
Have experience with the circulating and scrub nurse roles.
Have at least 1 year experience in med/surg
Provide inclusive, pro-choice, non-judgmental care to pregnant people and their families
Be highly detail-oriented and organized
Be interested in and motivated to learn about the complex Perioperative environment
What you’ll do
The following typical duties and responsibilities are performed under the direction of a Nurse Educator or qualified nurse delegate:
Maintain patient records by performing activities such as collecting and documenting information including health care information regarding patients and their families, nursing observations, telephone communications, interventions, teaching and care evaluations to ensure that patient records are current and complete.
Plan direct care for the pediatric patient by performing activities such as reviewing patient/family history, developing a care plan specific for the patient and family and meeting with other members of the health care team to discuss and review the care plan.
Provide direct patient care and collaborates with other members of the health care team to evaluate family centered patient care in the particular setting.
Identify own learning needs, review these with the Nurse Educator or delegate and engage in a variety of activities to meet these needs.
Act as a clinical resource/support person to patients/families and nursing/health care professionals by explaining the theoretical rationale for nursing decisions.
Participate as a member of the health care team through contributing information in rounds, committees and staff meetings.
Provide input to the Patient Services Director, or delegate, regarding policies, procedures and operational requirements by observing service needs and providing spoken or written suggestions which address patient and family needs and promote effective use of resources.
What you bring
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
You also have the ability to:
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Relate effectively to children and their families and others.
Function as an active member of a multidisciplinary team, and function as a nursing resource.
Demonstrate effective CPR techniques.
Organize work
Perform the duties of the job.
Operate related equipment including applicable computer software.
