The Inuit Success Facilitator is responsible for being a continual presence at the mine, reaching out to and supporting Inuit employees. They will provide continued support to Inuit Success initiatives within Baffinland. The Inuit Success Facilitator will report to the Training Superintendent. They will utilize communication tools to maintain a healthy contact with Inuit employees on site and in the home communities. They will work to increase ongoing communication with Inuit Employees. They will be an advocate for Inuit culture and employee needs at the mine. This is a 3-week fly in fly out based role, based at the Mary River mine site.
Main Accountabilities
Provide guidance and support to Inuit employees working at site and working with their supervisors or other relevant departmental personnel (HR, Environmental, Safety, etc.) to resolve issues.
Take a leadership role working to support operations management in developing and implementing a plan for continued Inuit employment, training and success.
Communicate effectively with operations management by being the subject matter expert on Inuit Success, working with management to resolve issues or concerns in a timely and expedient manner.
Be present at daily operations management meetings prepared to speak to departmental priorities and undertakings.
Encouraging Inuit employees in achieving greater participation at the mine through participation on committees, working groups, mine rescue teams, and consultations.
Maintain an understanding of Q-Step programs, understand who is participating and assist recruitment teams in advancing these individuals into roles at site.
Helping Inuit employees understand policies and procedures and communications and ensuring they are aware of new company information and news.
Communicate upcoming training and education opportunities available to Inuit employees and encourage their participation.
Being present at meal hours and in recreation areas to talk with and build a relationship with Inuit employees.
Talking with Inuit employees about choices, home life, opportunities and planning for success.
Flexible with time at work to ensure the ability to meet people on both day and night shift and at both the port and mine facility.
Working with Inuit youth to gain a better understanding on future career opportunities and working with them to assist with their career development.
Supporting Inuit involved with the apprenticeship program through continual communications and being available at their work sites to check on how they are doing and to provide support.
Provide examples of successes and accomplishments realized by Inuit employees to the Training Superintendent so that this can be shared with Operations Leadership.
Log all assistance provided to employees, Supervisors, Managers, etc.
Produce weekly reports for theTraining Superintendent.
Main Qualifications
Able to speak, read and write in Inuktitut and English.
Experience in and able to do use Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel programs.
Seen as a role model in their community and at site.
Positive presence and positive outlook with non-judgmental problem solving approach to issues, incorporating Inuit culture where possible.
Willingness to learn and adhere to Baffinland policies and procedures.
Nunavut Land Claims Beneficiary.
Willingness to mentor younger Inuit employees.
Experience in promoting a culture of safety.
