JOB SUMMARY
We seek a Senior Hydrometric Technician to join our Operations Team. Reporting to the Operations Team Lead, the individual will develop, implement and maintain hydrometric programs supporting hydropower development and operations. Approximately 80 % of the work will be office-based, and 20% will be field-based, requiring remote travel, extensive hiking, and work in and around water.
We offer flexible remote work arrangements but also encourage employee interaction at our Nanaimo, BC head office. Travel to communities across BC, including remote communities, is likely to be required.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties/Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to the following):
· Development, implementation and maintenance of hydrometric programs supporting hydropower development and operations;
· Organization and maintenance of all hydrometric equipment and other field equipment
· Complete fieldwork in remote communities accessed via boat, small aircraft, and/or vehicle. Fieldwork will include working in-stream and around waterways, working in adverse weather conditions year-round.
· Collect, organize, analyze and perform quality control on hydrometric data to support hydropower development and operations.
· Utilize the data and data analyses to complete compliance reporting, develop rating curves, and contribute to ramping studies
· Maintain clear records of the tasks, activities, and details of your work
· Adhere to all Company policies and procedures, including safety
· Contribute ideas, energy, and personal commitment to help foster a positive and rewarding work environment, and to help maintain and grow a successful, innovative, high-quality project management consulting practice at BPG
· Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor/manager
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
Our ideal candidate will have:
· Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in water resources, civil engineering technology or environmental engineering technology, or in a field relevant to the work to be performed OR successful completion of a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in engineering or geosciences, with a specialization in water resources, hydraulics and hydrology, or in a field relevant to the work to be performed.
· 3 or more years of professional work experience
· Field experience including field surveys, installation and maintenance of equipment, preferably in remote communities
· Knowledge of hydrometric equipment and methods of flow measurement (e.g. current metering, salt dilution gauging)
· Familiarity with hydrometric data and analysis for regulatory, development, or academic purposes
· Proficient with MS Word and Excel
· Knowledge of basic statistics to support hydrometric data analyses
· Experience with technical reporting, data management, and project documentation
· Must have class 5 BC Driver’s License and be comfortable driving on forest service roads and to remote areas
· Must be physically able to conduct field visits including handling and operating equipment, remote travel, extensive hiking, and work in and around water
· Committed to working safely
· Self-motivated, with an ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines.
· Passionate about working with Indigenous communities
· Familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS is an asset
· Knowledge of provincial hydrometric standards to support hydropower projects, other river projects is an asset
· Renewable energy experience, particularly hydropower is an asset
· Experience designing and completing ramping studies to support hydropower development is an asset
· A license to practice engineering (P. Eng.), geoscience (P.Geo.), or other relevant professional designation in BC, or eligibility to obtain one is an asset
· Be compassionate and a good communicator
· Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and the ability to multi-task
· Be trustworthy and work well on a team
· Must be respectful and have high integrity, ethics

· Excellent time management skills/be a self-starter
· A good sense of humour is a must
