POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounts Payable Clerk reports to the Accounting Lead or designate and is responsible for providing financial, administrative, and clerical services. This includes processing and monitoring payments and controlling expenses by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices and statements in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
All employees of BANAC are required to submit a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector upon hire and confirm compliance every year thereafter. All employees are to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), its regulations and all occupational health and safety policies and procedures. Due to the requirements of this position, a Valid Ontario Driver’s License and use of own insured vehicle is required. Valid CPR and AED Certificates are required
RESPONSIBILITIES
Process outgoing payments in compliance with financial policies and procedures
Preform day to day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, and recording accounts payable data
Receive and verify invoices and requisitions for goods and services
Verify and investigate discrepancies if any
Manage the weekly cheque run
Record all cheques
Prepare vendor cheques for mailing
Maintain files and documentation pertaining to vendors, invoicing, accounts payable, insurance, etc.
Financial reporting as required
Audit assistance
Staff support as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Bookkeeping, Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years finance experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Previous experience working within the Indigenous community, combined with knowledge of Indigenous cultural safety and Indigenous cultural practices.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position – preferably in the nonprofit community health or social service sector.
Proven working experience as Accounts Payable Clerk.
Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable principles.
Knowledge of financial reports, how they are generated and the ability to analyze and interpret the financial data as required.
Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records.
Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers.
Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and proprietary software.
Proficiency in English and in MS Office.
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
General knowledge of payroll principles Valid Ontario driver’s license and use of own vehicle for CHC business.
Provide a no-issue Police Check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is typically performed in office and community settings.
Regular overtime work may be required from time to time.
Low to moderate exposure to noise in the work environment.
Regular exposure to a moderate level of tension and anxiety due to deadlines, competing political pressures, and the competing needs and demands for limited resources.
Periodic exposure to smoke may occur from the burning of sacred medicines: Tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar.
