Mentor/Instructor for adult Independent study students

Our students strive to reach goals of employment; secondary school or grade 12 equivalence; increased personal skills; apprenticeship; post secondary.

If you can see yourself in a mentoring/instructor role for 1 – 4 adults at a time who are studying independently, please send your resume and cover letter by May 7. Skills/characteristics required:

1. patience, flexibility, empathy
2. sensitivity to adult students
3. comfortable with the foundational skills of reading, writing and math
4. ability to multi-task, work under pressure
5. comfortable with computer; Word and Excel
6. ability to work with students at all levels and with all learning styles
7. collaboration with other staff is key

• Willing to take our Laubach Literacy Tutor Training workshop.
• Police check with vulnerable sector mandatory.
• Permanent part time, twelve hours (two days) per week
• References required

Established in 1979, the Barrie Literacy Council was formed to respond to the needs of adults who have trouble with reading, writing, math. A non-profit charity, *Our vision is to increase adult literacy in our community, one student at a time, and enable individuals to reach their full potential. We will do this by offering help, at no cost, to adults who wish to improve their reading, writing and math skills.*

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 12 per week

Salary: $18.36 per hour
