FULL-TIME INCLUSIVE POST-SECONDARY FACILITATOR at the NICOLA VALLEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Inclusion Facilitators support adults with developmental disabilities to be fully included in the typical university and college experience. Students are supported to attend classes, participate in course work, engage in extra-curricular activities, social events, to make social connections, and to develop career interests and networks of friends. In essence to be a successful typical post-secondary student.
The ability to be a good listener, and to problem solve creatively alone and with co-workers is critical. Prior knowledge or experience working with adults with developmental disabilities is not essential. Applicants with a demonstrated passion for the inclusion of marginalized populations will be given preference.
The successful applicant should have a strong and compassionate sense of social justice and a strong desire to learn about the historical context of developmental disability. The art and work of inclusion facilitation is an on-going learning experience where facilitators engage in on-going critical reflection with each other about how to support students to build dynamic and enviable lives.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
· Facilitate mutually valued reciprocal relationships between students and other members of the student body.
· Meet on a regular basis with individual students to modify and adapt course and in class material, and to assist the student to identify their course of study and career path.
· Support the campus community to include the students as valued individuals in ways that are natural and typical of any student experience.
· Support the student to become independent and comfortable in making decisions.
· Liaise with the students’ families and/or other support staff in the student’s network.
· Identify modifications that may be required for the student in their courses, to participate in class, or to be successful in their employment.
· Facilitate a collaborative work environment at the individual student’s place of employment.
The successful applicant must be motivated to create inclusive communities, show initiative, possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and to be able to work in a team as well as independently under the guidance of the Director of Inclusive Post-Secondary.
Criminal record check required. Full vaccination status, or medical exemption required.
