The BC Interior Forestry Museum & Forest Discovery Centre is hiring for two full-time summer student positions.
Location: 5205 Hwy 23 N, Revelstoke, BC (7km from downtown Revelstoke)
Under the Young Canada Works Program, Candidates must meet the following criteria: -Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada. -Be legally entitled to work in Canada. -Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment. -Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment. -Be registered as a high school, college, CEGEP or university student in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment.
Length of position: 11 weeks
Hourly wage: $16.50

Position One: Starts May 19, 2022, ends August 8, 2022 (approx)
Position Two: Starts June 15, 2022, ends September 6, 2022 (approx)
All candidates must have: -Transportation to and from the museum, as public transit does not service this area. -Enthusiasm to create a great visitor experience for guests from all over the world. -The ability and willingness to participate in physical outdoor grounds and heritage exhibit maintenance throughout the 15 hectare property. -An interest in forestry and willingness to be trained & demonstrate some “old-time” logging skills. -Basic computer skills; Microsoft Office, data input.
Both are front-line positions working under the supervision of the Museum Director and Museum Board Members. Contact with our museum visitors is key to the roles so a pleasant disposition and a warm friendly attitude is required to enhance our visitors’ experience. Money handling and previous cash experience is a benefit as we operate a gift shop stocked with local arts and crafts and rely on donations for admissions. We need to maintain clear and accurate financial records daily. Some sales experience would be helpful in both positions. The successful candidates will be given both indoor and outdoor projects.
Position ONE: Museum & Gift shop Attendant
Full-time May 19, 2022 to August 8, 2022 (approx)
This role will include: Interacting with visitors to the museum. Recruiting and organizing museum volunteers. Participating in the online presence of the museum through our website and social media. Archiving of the extensive collection of articles, books, photographs and historical items in our growing collection. This will require training in the use of the Past Perfect Archiving Software.
Position Two: Design & Event Assistant
Full-time June 15, 2022 to September 6, 2022 (approx)
An ideal candidate will have experience in design & creative study, knowledge of web and graphic design programs, and an interest in event planning.
This role will include: Designing signage for our wayfinding and interpretive program for the Riverside Forest Walk. Designing signage and educational materials for the Museum. Helping to organize activities and events at the Museum & Riverside Forest Walk. Archiving of the extensive collection of articles, books, photographs and historical items in our growing collection. This will require training in the use of the Past Perfect Archiving Software.
