The Ministry of Forests is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land-based resources. The Ministry is also responsible for addressing natural hazards, including wildfire and flood management. By a commitment to sustainable natural resource management, and through the advancement of forest policy modernization and new transformational initiatives, the Ministry supports activities that provide economic, environmental, cultural and social benefits to all British Columbians. This work directly contributes to the achievement of the Province’s goals of meaningful reconciliation, a strong, sustainable economy and a better future for all British Columbians.
Reporting to the Deputy Minister, through the Executive Director, the Strategic Priorities Group provides leadership for centralized programs and corporate projects, including: Legislation, Corporate Planning and Performance Management, Internal Communications and Online Content and Professional Advice and Litigation Services (Statutory Decision Making and First Nation Consultation).
Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples is a priority of the British Columbia Provincial government. British Columbia became the first Province to adopt the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (Declaration Act) into law on November 28, 2019. The Declaration Act Action Plan released on March 30, 2022, outlines how in consultation and cooperation with Indigenous Peoples the Province will bring the UN Declaration into harmony with the Province’s work over the next five years.
