As an Underwriter I ( remote ) you will combine underwriting knowledge with a collaborative, solutions-based approach to assess insurance risks. You will assist the sales network by providing high standards of underwriting guidance to ensure agents are well-supported to be a trusted advisor to BCAA’s customers.

You have strong critical thinking skills mixed with an ability to consider all aspects of an enquiry to identify risks broadly and translate this knowledge into well-balanced decisions aligned with risk appetite and customer service expectations.

A natural born communicator who builds rapport easily and can explain decision making rationale in a way that resonates with our customer experience goals.
You have excellent interpersonal skills to be effective both within the team and throughout the organization.
You’re highly motivated and curious with a penchant for solving problems and getting to root causes.
What you’ll do:
Combine a well-rounded assessment of risk with creative thinking and a solutions-based approach to set well-balanced insurance terms within established profitability and risk tolerance parameters.
Escalate inquiries to senior members of Underwriting Team when necessary.
Consult with BCAA’s Claims dept on incurred losses, advising on coverage interpretation when required.
Review BCAA’s existing book of business for risk quality and loss performance. Set renewal terms to maintain policies at required profitability levels, working closely with our Sales teams to understand and address risk questions when necessary.
Help protect customers and ensure BCAA’s book is insured to value by identifying insured homes requiring appraisal valuations. Review appraisal results to ensure risks are properly insured and any identified concerns are appropriately managed.
Make recommendations for improvements to underwriting rules and processes based on hands on experience with the sales network and monitoring key operational metrics.
Support underwriting portfolio analysts and underwriting analytics team on strategic portfolio analyses and projects as opportunities to do so arise.
What you bring:
Grade 12 education
Minimum 2 years of experience in an insurance role
Bonus Qualifications:
CIP designation, or working towards CIP
Insurance Level 2 or 3 license an asset.
The salary range for this position is $58,416.24 to $73,020.24 and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 5%, with the opportunity to earn up to 9%. _ _
